“Needs updating and better presentation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

Like other recent reviewers found this museum interesting but difficult to get the most out of. Multitude of panels in multiple languages contain fascinating info but are hard to follow and rely on people reading everything. Wasn't as hot the day we went as others have spoken about, but we still left early feeling overwhelmed by the limited approach to the displays. Needs more visual items and better interactivity - including fixing the many headphones that aren't working.

“Old museum when there was not Wikipedia and Youtube”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

This museum is simply old: the majority of the displays consists of giant posters everywhere and very old videos you can easily find on internet.
It's good for people who don't use Wikipedia and Youtube and it was probably very good 10 or 20 years ago.
It's not really a museum of the history of the wall, but a museum of (old) texts and video on the history of the wall. It's even quite easy for everyone to prepare a museum like that at the current times.
It looks like a book whose pages have been attached to the wall, there's too much to read in a very hot and uncomfortable environment: you enter into it and feel simply overwhelmed by the texts written everywhere without any clear logic.
The high price of the museum is misleading: you think it's a nice one but it's only a touristic trap similar to the checkpoint charlie close to it.
It was probably useful in the '90s, but with the overwhelming information we have now, you'd much better buy a book or read these stories online.
I got into the museum and after 15 minutes I immediately got out (never happened in my life), totally angry by the fact that the most expensive museum in Berlin was also probably the worst and that there was really nothing that I could learn from this museum.
I asked for a refund which has been promptly agreed by the staff.
Make you a favour: do not go into this museum and buy a book or a dvd on the history of the wall.
There's probably nothing you can see here that you don't find on the web.

“Some interesting material, but poorly displayed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

I felt this museum badly needs some fresh thinking by the curator(s). It simply contains too much material, much of it in the form of text displayed on wall panels; given the small rooms in the Museum Haus and the degree of crowding, it was often impossible to stand and read them without blocking the flow of people. The story of the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall is a fascinating one, and for the casual visitor it would surely be better to tell the tale in its bare essentials, concentrating on artefacts, while making the more detailed material available to serious students of political history, perhaps through touchscreen technology. It was also expensive (even with the Berlin Welcome Card discount) and, on a hot day, stifling, even with fans running in every room. I'm afraid I wimped out before getting all the way round.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

What could be the best experience of our stay in Berlin was very disappointing. In a building that was too small, they simply tried to explain too much. The story of the wall (die mauer) is impressive enough without side steps to several geopolitical issues. This visit was the low point in an otherwise excellent day in Berlin

“Crowded and in need of updating, I would avoid”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

Far too crowded and information was displayed poorly and in a way that did not aid reading the displays, far too often typefaces were too small etc.

Some larger exhibits - cars etc that were used in escapes were fairly good but overall not a very good experience.
