“Beware the sweat box!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

This is a place to be avoided unless visiting in winter. Despite the hefty entrance fees, there is no hint of air conditioning, which, given the vast number of visitors, make a visit an endurance test - survival of the fittest.

Whilst the museum's material is fascinating, it is poorly laid out and crammed together. There appeared to be no sensible order in which to view material, and given the survival test underway, the exit sign proved the most appealing option.

This place is cluttered and a shocker at the price.

“Interesting info, but presentation could use some work”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

The museum at Checkpoint Charlie and the Checkpoint street scene are two different things. The street is open to everyone and has lots of boards set up with lots of historical info and pictures, as well as some tourist gimmicks (like the actors dressed as guards). The museum is in a building nearby and has a rather pricey entrance fee.
The museum is 3 stories and literally CRAMMED with stuff- posters with tiny text (German and English) talking about individual stories, as well as some displays of things that people used to escape. The escape stories are very interesting, so if you have the patience to stand and read, it's well worth it. But they weren't really organized in any way that I could tell, and the stories were interspersed among other displays and information, making the experience just a little "too much". It would have been great if it could have been presented in a more manageable, user-friendly, or visually appealing way. We ended up skimming half the museum and then just leaving after about an hour.

“Chaotic and Cramped”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

Whilst the subject matter is fascinating and some of the exhibits are jaw dropping (especially those from the escapes), I found the museum itself to be poorly laid out and very cramped, especially with the high level of visitors. pick your time to visit very carefully, and be prepared to have to wait to read boards. The check point itself is a bit tacky; a recreation with actors at a location removed from the original.

“Almost overwhelming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

So much stuff and information crammed into a relatively small area it got a bit much at times but there's so much to see, so many incredible stories to hear/read and so many interesting facts to learn we thought this was a very worthy attraction to visit. It's open late too which is handy, we made it our last stop on the hop-on hop-off bus.

i`m sure Berlin wall is on every ones list ,make sure to stop in at the museum next to the wall, there is a ton of info of what went on in ww2
You will need 2 hours there anyways and it is free to visit. The site also contains walkways where the former nazi ss buildings were.
