“Compact but well organized and informative”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

OK, I love the Bauhaus, but this museum, albeit small, contained some very iportant pieces and the headphones with explanations are excellent. As a fan of the Bauhaus, I knew a lot but did learn more. For such a small museum, we spent more than 2 hours. It's easy to get to with the 100 or 200 bus (a must also for any visitor...) and the temproary exhibit was good as well. I highly recommend this little gem. The building was originally designed by Walter Gropius, though built post mortem. Enjoy!

“A little jewel”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

Beautifully-displayed permanent collection of Bauhaus furniture classics, drawings, photographs, architectural models of Mies van der Rohe buildings et al. Excellent temporary exhibition of Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp. The Shop, however, was a let-down with over-inflated prices charged even for the most modest of items, like postcards. Reproductions of iconic designs, and newer Bauhaus-inspired pieces are beyond most pockets.

“I'm crazy about Bauhaus, but was not impressed.”
Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

Even if you adore Bauhaus, go into this museum with low expectations. It's really quite small and incoherent, with no real line of visit. The majority of the artefacts are uninteresting, composed mostly of random drawings and photos that had very little relevance.
The architecture was cool, and the scale models were awesome (specifically of the Barcelona Pavilion). The gift shop also had some interesting stuff.
Overall I was quite disappointed, really, especially after walking all the way from the Brandenburg Gate and paying the 5€ entry fee!

Must get audio guide to understand how it all started and the influence it has for the design world. Love it!

“Heaven for lovers of this seminal design movement.”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

This is a small but concentrated distillation of Bauhaus items/models/studies and theoretical philosophy. For lovers of design where function defines form it's almost the Holy Grail. The physical exhibits - furniture, pottery, metalwork, etc. - are a delight. The philosophy behind them still informs design today; remarkable. Because the Bauhaus movement was so beset by personal and political difficulties, little in the way of production occurred, but there are drawings and artworks that amply illustrate the guiding philosophy. The architectural models, especially of the Barcelona Pavilion, are well presented and the free audio guide is very informative.
The building is a little tired (underfunded?), but the staff are enthusiastic and helpful. The shop has a good range of items from reasonable to expensive that would make a great gift for a Bauhaus lover.
