“For first-timers, use it as a way to go around Berlin”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Our family of four (two adults, two teens) took the Berlin City Tour City Sightseeing Hop-on, Hop-off bus from the Brandenburg Gate on May 11, 2013. These are double-decker buses (open-topped during fair weather) which cover the main sights in the Western and Eastern part of Berlin. The tickets are valid for the whole day; one can hop-on and off the buses at the many stops along the route. It cost 15 Euro each for adults and 5 Euro for kids 12 yrs. and below. We found the quality of the tour guides inconsistent. On the first bus, the tour guide was speaking alternately in German and English, but was not enunciating his words clearly. He sounded very bored, and basically just pointed out what sights we were passing, with very little added info. We had to move to another bus at Kurfurstendamm, and got a more enthusiastic-sounding guide who provided more info on the sights.

Over-all, this tour is useful to first-timers to Berlin who just need an orientation tour of the main sights, and do not require deep background info. There are two routes to choose from. They offer the two routes at a discounted price of 22 Euro (adults) and 10 Euro (kids). There is no need to pre-book; you can pay on the bus. BUT, If you have a good guidebook, you might as well take the Bus 100 or 200 (public bus) for the price of a bus ticket, about 2.40 Euro per pax for two hours (covering Zones A and B) or 6.50 Euro whole day ticket valid until 3 am the next day. The only difference is, there will be no commentary from a tour guide.

“Berlinwalks.de with excellent guide Finn Ballard”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We traveled to Berlin, Germany by way of a cruise to Germany's coast and then had a two hour private van ride for 7 people to Berlin to meet our guide Finn Ballard (berlinwalks.de.com) . Finn was an excellent guide. He is an Irish lad who found his way to Berlin 5 years ago in pursuit of PhD studies and has since made Berlin his home. He has studied the history and culture extensively. His knowledge was a perfect fit for my husband who was an undergraduate history major and is particularly interested in World War I and II history. My college aged children enjoyed hearing about contemporary issues regarding Berlin's younger generation. My 82 year old father was moved when he saw such important sites he had only see in photos and read about. For me, I appreciated his condensed review of what we were about to experience. The tour was fast paced as we were a mobile group and we covered over a dozen sites. Finn prepared us with background information and with a file of photographs prior and during the site visits. His humor was delightful as well.

“Free Tours of Berlin”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Sam Noble was an outstanding guide. His historical and local knowledge gave us all a very deep and vibrant view of this city. He was able to interest a party of 39 people whose ages ranged from 15 - 75. He was well balanced in his views about the Wars and about the re-development of the City. A man who blended humour with fact. We will look out for other similar tours in other cities. Thank you Sam.

“Informative and Free tour of Berlin”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Our guide,Amy, who took us on the Sandemans Free Berlin tour both entertained and informed us on the free tour, which was a great introduction to Berlin.
Although it is free tipping is encouraged, and we gladly did so.

Pen took us on a very interesting tour of the Third Reich. Pen kept the whole crew engaged and i found the whole event fascinating. The tour lasted over four hours with alot of walking although bus and train journeys included. Covered alot of ground and time passed very quickly as Pen was a mind of information. Highly recommend this tour
