We have stayed in many hotels in Germany but this has got to be the worst. Stayed here in November 2011 for the Christmas markets, wondered what we had walked into as soon as we stepped through front door. Leaves everywhere not been cleaned. When we got to our room there were no headboards on the bed no draws to put underware in. There was a wardrobe with only two coat hangers and no shelves so still nowhere to put underclothes, but the bathroom was modern and emaculate. When went to ask if we could change rooms we were told that there was not any other rooms to go into yet the cleaner showed us three empty rooms which he knew was not taken. Reception staff were so rude and unaccomodating. After five minutes they admitted there were other rooms and we took that yet that was dirty considering it was supposedly cleaned. Stayed for one night and then found ourselves a lovely hotel for the rest of our stay. We couldnt get out of there fast enough.

Room Tip: Be aware they do not cater for disabled people. Although we got our money back would not recommend...

Lovely antique feel to this hotel, very quaint and oldworld style. Did not eat in the restaurant so can not comment on the food but the breakfast is substancial.
Unfortunately the weather was poor so we could not avail of the lovely little courtyard which would have been so nice to enjoy a beer in.
The room we had was very spacious with high ceilings, only downside was it was at the front of the house and with a main road outside and the buses starting at 5am it was difficult to get a great nights sleep, but then again we did'nt go to Berlin to sleep!

Room Tip: away from the front of house

I did a lot of research to find a nice 3 star hotel at a 2 star price. I found this in Hotel Altberlin and booked through entertainment.com for a great price ($86/night for a single) and a rebate after my stay. The hotel oozes charm and coziness. Wonderful, cozy restaurant where I had dinner one night and breakfast every morning. Wonderful selection for breakfast. Large portions at dinner. There aren't any other restaurants that I could find near the hotel and it's about 15 min walk to Potsdamer Platz. Single room was a nice size; pretty furniture, big modern marble-like tiles in bathroom. Although it's an old house, they had added an elevator. Friendly staff, free internet use on their computer, many newspapers, lounge area with fluffy chairs and sofas. Stayed 4 nights.

Room Tip: My room faced the beautiful courtyard. This was extra special about my room. It was quite, I could s...

great location; bus stop outside for main station for trains to many local destinations; or go to Potsdam Platz. 5min walk to U bann .
Room clean and comfortable; breakfast plentiful and varied.
Dinner not very good and waiter not very pleasant.
Staff otherwise were pleasant and helpful.

I cannot fault this hotel! It was superb. The staff helpful and friendly; the breakfast buffet delicious. The fascinating furnishings in the foyer and other areas added to the intrigue. I had an extremely comfortable twin room too. A really superb quality hotel at an excellent price! Can't recommend it highly enough!

We were a group of ten ’older’ ladies. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The hotel is on a busy main road, so ask for a quiet room if you do not like traffic noise. Also email the hotel beforehand if you definitely want twin beds – we arrived to find that the travel agent hadn’t specified this and it took some time for the harassed staff to re-organise. There is a lift, but the doors open onto half-landings, so that there are twelve steps up or down onto the corridors. There is an excellent cooked breakfast and a simple lunch on offer in the restaurant. We went across the road to the excellent Dalmatia Grill for all our evening meals. The staff in the hotel were very helpful and printed out exact directions on how to get to various places. Ask them to include details of the return journey – we had big problems finding our way back from Potsdam as there were no officials to ask on the station platforms.
The bus stop for town is outside the front door and the no 48 goes direct to Lustgarten where one alights for Museum Island and the Dom/Cathedral. Soon after arrival we walked (20 minutes) to the Potsdammerplatz station information office to buy a three day bus pass from the information office, but It might have been easier to have bought it on the internet beforehand!
The Technical museum is twenty minutes easy walk away. It is huge and ideal for the last day if one’s bus-pass has expired.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room away from main street. by email before arrival if booked through travel agent.

Had a meeting for a group of nine persons for three days. Real value for money in business package with conference room. Real "homemade" German food in large tastefully portions. Expect some noise in rooms facing the street. The business rooms had a lot of space. This hotel is a real alternative to standard hotels, the hotel have soul!
