Enjoyed another stay at the Hollywood Media, this time for a week. The hotel couldn't be more centrally located in West Berlin, directly at the Kurfürstendamm – everything's available, as well as extensive transport links to other parts of the city.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, if somewhat distant, and checking in and other procedures are painless.
The room is rather spacious and in contrast to the public areas where film deco is everywhere, this is almost not the case in the rooms. Plenty of storage space and a comfortable bathroom with a tub are available. Bed, pillows and other facilities are good and adequate.
Breakfast is served until 10:30 and is very abundant, offering huge selection and good quality – a really pleasant experience. An annoyance, though, is that the staff places “reserved” signs on almost all tables they clean, and have people cramp together on the remaining tables – this is not worthy of a four star hotel.
During this stay there were problems with the air-conditioning in both mine and my companions' rooms – one too hot and too cold. Complaining about this to the reception made no diffence at all – nothing changed and no information was given back to either of us. Luckily, fiddling and experimenting with the temperature controls improved the situation, but the lack of service was still disappointing.
In all this is a very comfortable, and well-located hotel. From previous stays I would have given it a five, but the (still minor) staff issues mentioned steals a point this time. Regardless, I'd be happy to return.
