Mercure Hotel Berlin am Alexanderplatz

The room was impersonal and no better than cheaper hotels I stayed in during this trip. The corridor was dark and deserted. Internet added 16 euros. I really wasn't impressed. The best thing about the hotel is that it is not that far from the center and breakfast was good.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget, eat at one of the inexpensive places across the road.

As mentioned in previous reviews, this hotel appears to be the result of a renovated apartment building turned into a modern hotel of today. Or at least this is the impression I got, as I stepped into our room on the 7th floor after a very slow elevator ride up the building. A two bedroom (smelly) apartment with ample of space, a small balcony (no access) and decent bathroom. No good sleeping quality, boring corridors and room colors, and with views to a boring neighborhood.

Overall, a tired establishment which is in need of renovation. We booked a premium room, but failed to ever find out what this extra surcharge for a premium room covered (no free breakfast for example, but there is a great bakery just 10m outside the hotel entrance with breakfast meals offered for a quarter of the hotel's listed breakfast price. The hotel is located ca. 200m from Alexanderplatz. From here an easy connection to Berlin Tegel International Airport with bus TXL every 10 mins for €2.80 one way). This ticket also covers the onward journey from Alexanderplatz to the hotel with tram lines M5 or M6 which stops right outside the entrance (first tram stop after Alexanderplatz) and is thus convenient to avoid having to drag heavy suitcases through multiple traffic lights and uneven pavements. Nearest U-Bahn station is the Alexanderplatz.

A major positive on this hotel is the staff; extremely friendly, smiling at all times and very helpful in all matters and aspects. No faults here.

Having said so, unless you plan to stroll down the Karl Marx Allee (just one block off) in your holiday, then over all I find the location of Mercure Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz a bit too off most of the sights I had on my list, such as the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie etc., even though Berlin U-Bahn is probably one of the most convenient subway systems I have ever experienced.

We were in Berlin for the half-marathon in April and chose this hotel for its location and price. The hotel appears to be a former apartment building and we had a 60sqm two-room suite with two balconies facing the Alexanderplatz area. Right in front of the hotel, however, was two derelict and condemned buildings on the Karl Marx Allée corner as a reminder of former Communist times.
The hotel has little charm in itself as have the rooms which are sparsely furnished, considering the size of the rooms. However, there was oodles of space and the location was perfect - 100 meters from the Alexanderplatz.
On 'race day' we asked for a late check-out (2PM) as we hoped to catch a shower after the race before heading home and this was no problem. The staff was very helpful and service-mind in this and other matters.

Room Tip: Skip the hotel breakfast and buy your own at the small bakery shop right outside the hotel at a frac...

The hotel is located in a good area, and for this reason we decided to stay there. Besides the good location, the hotel does not offer much more. It is a very old building partialy renewed but still pretty old. Room was big, but a bit smelly. We also had included in the price the breakfast. It was OK but the variety a bit poor. I do think it does not wealth 18 euros/person. In general everything was ok, but we were expecting more from a Mercure hotel. There is a Ibis budget just infront of the hotel that looks much more better!

We enjoyed our stay in Berlin. The hotel room was spacious and comfortable.
The building is showing its age and it really cannot qualify as being as nice as other Mercure hotels where we have stayed in other european cities. But, it was still very nice.
One day was found garbage outside our room in the hallway.

We had several interactions with the Reception executives. We appreciated their helpfulness and friendliness. Thank you.

The staff at the reception were pleasant and helpful. Our room had a balcony and from the outside it looks as if all rooms have balconies so that's a bonus. The pillows were waaay too soft my personal taste but the bed was comfy and the bathroom clean.

Room Tip: The room we checked into was a smoking room although we had requested a non-smoking room so ensure y...

The receptionist offered one of the worst welcomes I have ever received when arriving in any hotel. I wasn't given any information about breakfast or the internet in the rooms and he didn't actually say "Wilkommen". He scrutinised my booking confirmation as if it was a forgery.

The room I was in was comfortable if basic and dated. The toilet was not clean. This is of course unfortunate. Otherwise the standard of cleanlieness was acceptable. The location of the hotel is the main selling point I think but also comes with the disadvantage of noise. I was in a street-facing room and struggled to sleep due to noise from traffic and the trams on the doorstep. However this disruption seemed worth it in order to be within walking distance of all the wonderful Berlin sights.

All in all I had an acceptable stay and would heartily recommend Berlin as a destination but I would look for an alternative hotel if I was to return.
