“Friendly atmosphere and good value food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2011

We stayed at Suite Novotel just round the corner so Ristorante Diomira was really convenient.
It was good value and the food was tasty. Pizzas were outstanding.
Friendly staff and clean restaurant
Could have a meal for Euros20 for 2
Would recommend a visit; we went twice in the four night stay.

“just-about-average food and zombie-like waiters”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2011

Diomira is an Italian restaurant near Potsdamer Platz and very close to some popular city centre hotels such as the Holiday Inn Express.
We went there for an evening meal and ordered salad, pizza and pasta dishes. The ruccola salad wlth mozzarella and tomatoes was very nice but quite steep at almost 8 euros. The rest of the food was partially average and partially weird, at least the ham and cream pasta was. It tasted okay, but was a slightly alarming shade of beige, almost brown with tired looking ham. The pizzas are priced at around 7 Euros. The ones we ordered (with sea-food) had off-putting soggy omelette-style bases.
Overall, the restaurant is quite cosy but also pretty cramped inside. There is a nice beer garden out back which is great for a pint on a warm day.
The restaurant staff however turned out to be indifferent, unresponsive and unfriendly. In fact, they somehow managed to get through an entire meal without saying as much as a single word to us, even though (or despite that?) we were being friendly and talkative . They took the order without a comment, they brought the drinks and the food without a comment. A tour group that arrived mid-meal on the other hand was greeted by staff with smiles and large complementary pitchers of ice cold water.
When it came to paying, they made us wait for over half an hour while gathered around the bar laughing and joking amongst themselves. They only sorted the bill after one of us finally went up to the bar.
As I am put off by restaurants that are not really bothered about customers (and after all, if the waiters don't care, the cook probably also doesn't care too much about the food?) I will definitely never come back to eat there again.
