If your family likes science, the Spectrum Science Museum is well worth a visit! They have several excellent standard displays, but they frequently apply interesting twists to some otherwise conventional exhibits. There were even some displays that I'd never seen before in any way, shape, or form! Nearly all of the displays are interactive and interesting!
The museum itself is quite large, so the exhibits are pretty well spread out. In a couple of places, one exhibit interferes with another, but (at least when we were there) the density of visitors was low enough that this was not a big issue. The sound exhibits did "clash" a bit, so you may need to wait until others are done in the area so you can hear what you are trying to experience.
Parking was easy and free, and there were two for one coupons at our hotel so the price of the visit was very low. The Spectrum is right next to the German Museum of Technology Berlin (Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin), so if you have a full day you could fully unleash your "inner geek".
