We had four nights in this hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. The bedroom was great with an incredible view over the Tiergarten to the city and beyond into the east. The bed was very comfortable and the room had all that we needed but the hair dryer could have been more powerful.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful especially at reception and the Marlene bar, where we enjoyed some drinks, some food and a good relax after a day travelling.

I'd definitely stay here again when I return to Berlin - thank you!

Four nights with the family, booked 2 junior suites for a very good rate for a 5* hotel. Cleanliness, service, amenities, etc, all as should be expected from the InterContinental group.
Would definitely recommend and would revisit when in Berlin again.

Location: convenient for the Zoo, Aquarium and Tiergarten, but a U/S Bahn journey to most other tourist destinations, nearest station 10 minutes walk.

Room: we booked a standard room (which confusingly the hotel seems to call both superior and classic) but due to availability were upgraded. I am not sure of the correct labelling of the room we were given, but it was in most ways excellent. Judged by the floorplan on the back of the door our room (excluding bathroom) appeared to be about double the size of a standard room. In the bathroom there was both a bath and a separate good sized shower cubicle. However, I have three reservation:
- the air conditioning: which did not cool the whole room down effectively even on full and did not have a thermostat (the weather was hot, but not exceptionally so)
- the over engineered coffee machine and water heater: even with instructions on first use it took almost as long to work out how make it work as to drink the tea/coffee, a simple kettle would have been better; and
- a charge for internet: which I think is unreasonable in 2014.

Staff: all the staff we came into contact with were excellent – absolutely no reservations there. Even those wearing a trainee label were better than the staff in many other hotels.

Breakfast: the range of food offered at breakfast was excellent. It was buffet style but with an egg station. However, we thought it overpriced at Euro 27 if you commit to it at check-in and more (Euro 33 I think) if you do not.

Dinner: whilst the website boasts about the two restaurants in the hotel, bizarrely both were shut for the whole of our 3 night stay in late July. It was possible to eat from the cheaper (but not cheap) LA Café menu in the bar, but whilst the bar is fine for a drink it did not appeal to us as a place to eat and very few people appeared to do so. We had dinner in the Greek restaurant opposite the hotel (mostly good quality, low prices, huge portions – big enough for two – no sophistication); the Italian restaurant a few doors to the left of it (generally what you would expect from a good Italian) and, 15 mins walk away, Café Einstein Stammhaus (very good, see separate review).

Dear PercyVeerance,

Thank you for your detailed and constructive feedback. I am pleased to hear that you appreciated the service quality of our team. Especially your compliment regarding our trainees makes me feel proud and I will share your comment with them. I am also delighted to read that you enjoyed the variety of our breakfast.
Nevertheless, I want to apologize for the inconveniences during your stay, too. I am sorry that you were not able to cool down your room to the temperature you are used to and that both restaurants are closed at the moment. As you have mentioned, during summer the L.A. Café menu is provided in our Marlene Bar. However, the team of Hugos restaurant is taking a creative break until 25 August, to get new ideas for the second half of the year.

I am looking forward to your next stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights. It was wonderful. Hotel was very clean and staff was welcoming and friendly. We ordered room service one night during our stay and the food was delicious. The location was about 10-15 minute walk for the Zoologischer Garten U/S-bahn station, which was great so we could easily get around Berlin without using a taxi. Fitness center was very nice and the pool area was serene. The only strange thing, which wasn't that big, was that the TV was on a rotating stand (so you could watch it in the tub which is pretty cool), but it was at a strange angle if you wanted to watch it while relaxing in the rest of the room. Wifi was free for a day or you could pay to have it longer if needed.

Dear laurabee14,

Thank you for your kind words. I am pleased to read that you could enjoy a wonderful stay with us and that you appreciated our service and amenities.
Regarding the position of the TV, we are well aware that the position is not comfortable for watching TV from the bed, but our hotel offers different room categories which differ in their size and furnishing. Our Deluxe rooms for example feature flat screens in front of the bed. Our teams are ready to advise you upon your next stay.

Stayed a week here. The test of a great hotel is how they respond to your feedback and this place went above and beyond to address a few issues for us making our stay truly remarkable!

The best breakfast in Europe, we thoroughly enjoyed the range and freshness of the food. The club was great too and was very nice to grab a drink or light snack.

Our room was very nice too. We were in the older part of the hotel but it was still lovely.

There is a bus that stops directly outside the hotel and takes you into the city centre. The zoo is next door.

Highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I spent 4 nights - huge reception area, lovely room, very friendly & helpful staff. Only little snag - the TV was in a revolving cabinet that we could not position correctly. Great location- approx. 20 Euros by private taxi from Tegel airport. Also close (10 minute walk) to Ubahnhof station Zoologischer Garten - from where one can also catch publlc transport to central Berlin. This is also the point from the Berlin Walking tours depart (also highly recommended). Also close to the Kurfurstendamm road with lots of shops & restaurants. Several good restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Highly recommended.

Dear Gnanasagren P,

Thank you for staying at the InterContinental Berlin and for pointing out the advantages of our
location. Regarding the TV we are well aware that the construction of this moving element is a matter of taste and its position is not comfortable for watching TV from the bed. But our hotel provides several room categories which differ in their size and design – some of them without moving elements such as the TV cabinet. Our booking assistants are ready to advise you upon your next stay.
Dear Gnanasagren P, thank you again for recommending our hotel and I am looking forward to your next stay.
