“"A jerk at river cruise"”
Review of City Safari Sightseeing Tours - CLOSED

Attraction details
Reviewed August 16, 2011

We bought on line tickets for city tour and river cruise and had the confirmation with us. We confirmed the tickets with the river cruise starting point stall and we were standing in the line to board the boat. When the time approached to board the boat the jerk manning the entry tried to refuse our entry to the boat saying it is not a valid ticket. At this time another guy from the cruise company intervened and let us board the boat. The jerk felt defeated and tried to keep the ticket with him(same ticket for cruise and bus tour). I explained to him that I need the ticket to board the tour bus after the cruise to get back to my hotel. He tried his best to keep the ticket but the same gentle man who intervened earlier went back to the stall and made a photo copy of the ticket and gave back the original.

City Safari claims to have a "Free boat tour!" on their buses, but this is false advertising. Rather, if you buy the most expensive ticket, that includes a boat tour. The only difference between this ticket and the next one down is, of course, the boat tour. So it's not really free, is it?

The tour hits many major stops, but goes right by most of them while you listen to a very brief recorded announcement, assuming you can find a pair of working headphones. I managed to find a working pair after going through three of them, and even then the left speaker didn't work. If you really have to take this tour, bring your own headphones.

The tour includes many "stops" at major attractions, where they park for 10 minutes or so and try to sell more people tickets. At that point, the recording on the headphones plays in a loop several times.

There's plenty of walking or boat tours for significantly less money that are more informative. Don't bother with City Safari.

There seem to be a number of tour bus companies in Berlin and none could be worse than this. First of all, the instructions told us only that they were open from 9 - 6 and that they would pick-up in 5 different locations in the city and that orange jacketed tour guides would be there. We selected the closest location and no one was there until after 10 with no possible way to get more information. The tour consisted of occasional recorded facts through headphones and you did not even know half the time what building they were referring to. Here's the kicker though: After a while we realized that we were going in a circle and had heard all the recordings and were going to the same places so we got out to go to the boat tour portion. When we got to the boat, the nasty woman there said that we could not go on the boat because no one exchanged our voucher for tickets and she made us go back to the other side of the city to get boat tickets. Then when we got on to the boat, the entire boat tour was in German and we did not understand a word.
