We came here and tried their weekly special, a dal carry over rice, with a starter -- a kind of orange and fennel cream soup -- for €10.50. For Berlin, that's sort of pricey, but it was quite a lot of food! Everything was very tasty, and certainly not run-of-the-mill, either. The space itself is very nice, and extremely well-located for a day of museum-hopping and sightseeing in Mitte. Staff were friendly and service was prompt.

As an eggs benedict addict, wherever I am I always try to locate a place which knows how to make it. Well, not an easy task in Berlin the city which it's culinary scene still lives somewhere in the 80's. But never the less, about half a year ago I heard about Chipps. Located in a small street a few blocks away from the main fuss of Berlin. The place is rather small but he look is quite modern and nice, with a nice edge to it. Well, in overall it was a nice breakfast BUT the number one rule of a good benedict which is keeping the egg yolk liquid, was not kept and was dry in both dishes. Well, the winter is gone and a few days ago we were around and decided to try again. To my disapointment, the eggs benedict was already finished (breakfast) as we arrived to the lunch menu. So we had to try out the unknown territory of the "weekly lunch menu" and boy, were we happy we did. He took a dish called "Rotes Linsen Dal' (10.5 Euros) which is lenses curry puree with vegetables, basmatic rise, red paprika, and koriander. He literly licked the plate. All was fresh and yummy. I took a fresh pasta dish, quite simple but spicy and feeling "Fettuccine al Arrablata" which was a bit pricy for Berlin's pasta dishes (9.5 Euros) easily can be found for half a price almost in every Italian restaurant. But, you can have next to it a soup (which was already finished) or a salat inculded in the price. The final finish was a divine chocolate mousse. The coffee however, was a bit disapointing. From such a place, so modern and nice I would expect real fresh milk, maybe it was but it didn't taste like (tastes like UHT milk). Also, the coffee itself wasn't to our liking but I'm a coffee snob so a bit spoiled. The beer was also a bit pricy, 4 Euros. So yes, it's not perfect but for some reason we love this place. Just improve the coffee and we will come every Friday.

We had breakfast here three times while in Berlin. It was absolutely perfect. Huge range of choice and some interesting combinations none of us had had before. Good coffee, good staff and lovely location beside the Department Foreign Affairs. It was off the tourist beat of Gendarmenmarkt but close enough.

We didn't try lunch or dinner here but it all looked great.

I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant and reserved a table using their online booking system. I received two emails confirming my booking.

When i arrived for my meal i was told i could not be seated as the restaurant was closed for a private function. This was extremely frustrating as i was only in berlin for a short period of time.

From the moment we arrived, we were met with that bad service most people have mentioned already. The young, bleach blonde haired man was prepared to turn us away (even though there was a high table that we could wait at while a table became free) while the other girl who was there sat us way up the back. His attitude remained cold, 'too cool' and rude the whole time. Our drinks came after 30 minutes of waiting, the excuse being "oh the big table took up your drink time". Fair enough, but shouldn't you have got the quick 2 person order out of the way before starting the 12 person order?

We both ordered the 'Lumberjack' breakfast with vegan bacon. Big mistake. The scrambled eggs came with no ingredients other than egg (no salt or cream/milk mixed in) and the vegan bacon tasted like what an old inner sole would taste. French toast was dry and bland.

The atmosphere is definitely not what one would expect looking at the menu or the website. It's cold, rude and pretentious - nothing like the cool, relaxed vibe we were expecting.

We waited at our table for a while before finally getting up and paying at the counter as we left.

This place sucks, avoid.
