THIS IS A NICE AND NEW HOTEL IN THE "MITTE" OF BERLING A BIT FAR FROM ALL ATTRACTIONS.

I was under the assumption that the Name :Grosser Kurfuerst would be at the Kurfuerstendamm
in the West and was very disappointed of my choice and the result.
I had a 3 night reservation and the Reception girl would not let me check out after one night
saying that the hotel reservation department was closed till monday.
Therefore I called Venere where I booked and after the Venere agent spoke with the Hotel
I could check out and move to the West.

I stayed here with a friend and we both thought it was excellent. The staff spoke very good English and were very friendly. I was able to buy stamps for post cards at the front desk and they offered to mail them for me. The location is great, very close to popular museums and right next to the Märkisches Museum U-Bahn station.
The bathroom was large and clean, and had a bidet. The room was also clean, and the beds were comfortable, although very close together. The room has a mini-fridge which comes stocked with two free bottles of water and two free beers. That was a nice touch. There's also a small safe as well as a trouser press.
The staff didn't tell us that we needed to insert the door key into the wall by the light switch in order to supply power to the room. Once we got that worked out it was a very nice stay.

I've just come from Berlin and I stayed in this hotel for 3 days. I definately loved the hotel. It has a great location, right next to the metro station. The only problem is the wi-fi, which is allowed for only 1 hour.

We immensely enjoyed this 4-star hotel for a weekend. The situation is excellent by the river, and in the heart of the city, yet on a quiet street within walking distance from Nikolai Quarters, The Dome, Museum Island, Alexanderplatz etc. Also in the neighboudhood you can find a couple of nice restaurants, terassed pubs and the old harbour. The room was neat with a French balcony facing the city, and the overall service very friendly and caring. The concierge even managed to find us coffee at 5 am in the morning when we were leaving for the airport. The rooms have a fridge where icecold Beck´s will be waiting for your arrival...we will be back!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river have a really nice view from the higher floors.

A really incredible location right on top of the subway station at Markisches Museum on the u2 line. This line takes you in a couple of stops to Alexanderplatz, or a couple of stops further to the happening areas around Prenzlauer Berg. Go in the other direction, and u2 takes you without changing to Potsdamerplatz, Gendarmenmarkt or Bahnhof Zoo. The immediate surroundings are uninspiring high rises, but you are in the beautiful Nikolai district in a few minutes ( then on to city hall and Alex ). Also just head down to the Markisches museum, housed in an interesting dutch style building with a great collection of exhibits illustrating city history. Outside are some great examples of the old Berlin wall, and a charming little neighbourhood park including bear pit. There is also a cheap ethnic style boatmen's pub and
lunch joint overlooking the river, and a little gathering of old barges and steamers that serves as a museum. Heading back to the hotel is a convenience store, and a great quirky little tea-room cafe. Across the street from reception is the sister hotel Henriette with a decent Indian restaurant with a delightful little terrace on the canal. ( The hotel's own Lebanese restaurant was closed ). A few minutes further down the road brings you to another Indian restaurant, a bakery / coffee shop, and a big Edeka food market.
That alone would be enough to recommend the hotel, but the accommodation is also very good. Reception was unfailingly friendly and very helpful. There is an internet terminal in the lobby with 1 hour free per room per day. The lounge and bar area are open plan at the side of reception, and the bartender offered some very interesting drinks at reasonable prices for a 4* hotel. To break up the rather formal lines, there is a huge statue of the duke on horseback coming out of the wall about 10 metres up......
The bedroom , was a very good size and well appointed with an armchair as well as a work chair at the desk. There was plenty of closet space , and a fridge with 2 complimentary bottles of beer and 2 mineral waters topped up each day... The bathroom was a very good size, and had a full bathtub as well as a shower ( appreciated after a hard day's sightseeing at 35C)
The decoration and lighting was warm and comfortable , avoiding the rather clinical feel of many modern hotels, and everything was impeccably clean.
There was some kind of central forced air system, but for a hot summer night, the pedestal fan was certainly required. Proper a/c would be a good addition.
My only reservations were that the quiet rooms overlook the central atrium, and thus the bar. So if you have your window open, you might hear the noise downstairs until about 1 am. Also though bathtowels were a very good size, I thought they were a bit thin.
I got an amazing deal for room-only on the net, and did not try the rather expensive breakfast.
The strong features of this hotel mean i would certainly recommend this hotel, and look at staying here again on a future visit.

I stayed here in March with my boyfriend for a break in Berlin, it seemed to tick all our boxes, fairly nice, close to Alexanderplatz (for airport train access) and good metro access. Can't fault the U bahn access, you are literally 10 steps away from the hotel when you exit from Museum U bahn stop, which is excellent after a long day of walking! We didn't get breakfast in the deal, but that was easily found, and the 2 free bottles water a day were appreciated. I also have to praise the receptionists and their excellent English when dealing with an Irish girl who speaks no German at all!

By coincidence, as I raved about Berlin so much my sister and I have booked a trip for next week with a seperate deal for this hotel! I know we're going to have a comfortable trip and I'm very pleased to be staying in this hotel again, this time with breakfast!

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor, and had a lovely view of the river Spree outside the window
