We got a great rate for the hotel and had a really nice clean and well equipped inside room with a view over the central atrium and aquarium (see tip below). There are trams and buses very close as well as river trips and Alexanderplatz is a very short walk - and from there you can get to any part of the city. We bought a Berlin welcome pack at the airport (and it gave us free unlimited travel on all trains, trams and buses at a very low price plus genuine reductions at attractions and at eateries. We would happily go back to this hotel - only wish is that they had a kettle and tea/coffee in the room. Breakfast was exceptional - huge buffet lots of fresh fruit and produce and omlettes made to order. Berlin itself was a bit disappointing though - in July 2012 it is one huge building site - even big attractions are covered in builders haudings and there is dust everywhere

Room Tip: When you check-in you will be asked if you want a room overlooking the aquarium or the street. We c...

Just came home from a four day stay in this hotel, and I can recommend it. The room was nice and clean, the service was quick and friendly, and everything worked as it should. A big plus for free high speed internet acccess that was actually high speed.

Far from being impersonal, this modern hotel with a five storey fish tank in the middle, complete with divers cleaning the glass on the inside!, is fun. We upgraded to a business room for less than the costs of the hotel's breakfast and opened our windows onto the Berlin Dom across the Spree.Well-equipped rooms, comfortable bar beneath the aquarium, and breakfast on a sunny terrace. Step out, turn right and you're on to Museum Island and Unter den Linden Strasse. Walk to the the Brandenburg Gate. Walk to the Bundestag, walk to the opera, walk to the Holocaust memorial, walk to the best art and history museums. Too busy to use the hotel pool and gym!

Room Tip: 5th floor business room overlooking Berlin Dom you also see eye to eye with the biggest fish in the...

OK, it's not the cheapest, but if you want a great hotel ideally located for seeing Berlin, look no further. Close to Alexanderplatz - easy to get to by airport express train from Schonefeld airport. It's a short walk from Unter den Linden, the Lustgarten, and the Bebelplatz, and the rail station at Alexanderplatz gives easy access to the whole of Berlin. Very comfortable rooms, and a nice terrace to eat outside if the weather is good, right on the river Spree, with a great view of Berlinerdom. Boat trips depart from the quay right outside, a nice way to see Berlin for the first time. The amazing huge cylindrical aquarium in the central atrium is unique. The staff are friendly and can't do enough for you.

Room Tip: Best views are onto Karl-Liebknecht Strasse or the Berlinerdom.

Great place to stay for a weekend break in Berlin. Most attractions within walking district and some very nice in-expensive restaurants close at hand. Big attraction with having a huge fish tank in reception.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river!

Large chain hotels are usually safe bets for business people travelling. They're more or less the same everywhere you go and that's a plus if your reason for visiting a strange city is business; predictability is a big plus. The unfortunate side of that equation is of course that with increased predictability comes a loss in personality. Simply put, large chain hotels are all boring because they were designed to be boring.

Not so the Radisson Blu, Berlin. It's still everything you expect from Radisson. Everything just works. The room is the right size, bathroom is just fine, yada, yada, yada. And then you get some extras that actually add up to a certain spice. For starters there's the six-story tall cylindrical aquarium bang in the middle of the hotel. If you get a room facing in, you can see all sorts of fish passing by. Weird, funky, definitely good.

Then there's the location. Just east of Unter den Linden, convenient to almost everything. Nice location without being swanky and close to everything. By the way, it's a 6 minute walk away from the Hackescher Markt, the ideal gateway to all the shops, cafes, bars you could possibly need to unwind at the end of the day.

And here's the cherry on top: helpful staff. I mean, really, really helpful. Go out of my way and around the corner helpful. Tickets to the Opera? Done. Help with setting up the German prepaid SIM card? No problem. A missing cable... you get the idea.

The only drawback, if you want to call it that, is that the closest U-bahn station is a little far. Other than that, it's just great.
