“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed June 15, 2013 via mobile

The hotel is clean, friendly , the spa is great, near by transportation. We enjoyed every moment. If you in Berlin, it is recommendable. The parking is free and so is the Internet. One little things that I didn't like was the fact that in the spa men take a shower naked , even the place is for woman too.

We struck lucky finding this hotel on our first visit to Berlin. Situated on a relatively quiet road adjacent to the zoo, first impressions were not favourable due to extensive building work down the street, however this development turned out to be far enough from the hotel not to interfere with our stay. The hotel was built and furnished to a high standard, our room was spacious, air conditioned, fully equipped and overlooked a wild flower area to the rear of the hotel. The bed was large and very comfortable, possibly too comfortable though my memory pillow seemed to be suffering from dementia! The quality of service from all staff was attentive and well informed, breakfast choice was extensive and set up us for the day. On the downside the hotel is a major venue for business functions which led to a slight impersonal feel about the place, the bar area was small, bright and not conducive to a quiet drink and the restaurant was expensive. However as we spent all day exploring Berlin including eating out in the evenings, the hotel provided everything we needed during our four day stay and we would stay there again on a future visit to the city.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the zoo.

From the moment you walk into a Pullman hotel lobby you know it is a very nice hotel. We have only had positive experiences at Pullman. The front desk was fantastic and helped us throughout our stay. The rooms were very comfortable with great views of the zoo or the courtyard. The pool is stunning. Many people talk about the cost of Wi-Fi but we were handed codes for free service and we did not even need it on our iPhones. We were able to log in free. The hotel is on a quiet street but only a short 2 to 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants. A cab was always available in front and when we had a large group the front desk or bar staff ordered a van/taxi for us.

We spent a lot of time in the lobby bar due to the wonderful employees Ciena and Nadine. They made our 5-days extra special. We looked forward to seeing them every day and we spent a lot more time and money in the hotel due to their top-notch service and whimsical personalities. The hotel is truly blessed to have them working at this location.

The breakfast buffet we paid for in advance in our reservation and I highly recommend it. In true Pullman style, it is tasty with great service. I would seek out another Pullman hotel for my next vacation.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the zoo have a better view but are a bit smaller. Rooms that face the courtyard are...

A classic 5-star hotel: nice (though small) rooms, a great restaurant, good bar (if a bit impersonal), a very fine breakfast, and helpful, friendly staff. Position wasn't bad: close to Ku'damm shopping strip and the zoo, but not so far as restaurants were concerned. There were a few, but only one really close.

The irritations. One of three lifts did not work the entire time we were there; the wait could be a very long one. And - sigh - there was the usual nonsense with wi-fi; why hotels insist on charging ludicrous amounts for it is beyond me. It's like charging for hot water or pillows. In the end, we got around the problem by joining the hotel's frequent stayer programme, which brought with it free wi-fi. But it's still BS. And the room was hot, hot, hot, even with the air-con set to cool (which it never did) and the window opened as far as it would go, which wasn't much. The hotel said they'd fix it but nothing changed so I gave up asking. Not good for a hotel as expensive as this.

Reception: Helpful quick and professional

Concierge: Some good (young man), others a little impatient (lady assistants). However better than the tourist information office nearby on Kurfurstendamm (don't both going!)

Breakfast: Good atmosphere, nicely balanced choice of food, but can be a bit austere with regard to where they would like you to sit. Just politely decline and choose you own space and breakfast lounge (sometimes they need to use overflow rooms - not as nice - food can get cold)

Room: The best part. Clean and tidy, recently renovated, good view over zoo.

Pool: Staff a little disgruntled but OK. Pool and Sauna excellent. There is fruit to eat at various locations and plenty of chairs and hammocks.

Ideas for trips:

1. A 3 hour boat trip (Reederei), it leaves just at the junction of Budapester strasse and Lutzowuferend only 50 meter's from the hotel. Only costs 20 euros. Concierge need to mention this straightaway when inquiring on boat trips - its the obvious one to take.

2. Reichstag. Ensure you book online at www.bundestag.de to avoid lengthy queuing.

3. Topology of Terrors museum

4. TV tower, book online if possible otherwise may be a 2.5 hour wait from buying ticket to getting on the lift up.

5. Grosse Stern - only 3 euros and you get a nice view over the city.

Buy the Eyewitness guide to Berlin @ £13.99. Well worth the money. Bus X9 (X for direct) from airport to Zoo (approx. 20 mins) cost euro 2.40 single. Only a 5/10 min walk from here to the hotel. Don't bother buying the 25 euro city pass. The hotel is centrally located, so just take a good pair of running shoes and walk, it saves time and money!

Just had a 3 night stay in the Pullman Berlin, the pool & spa area are great for relaxing after walking around all day. Plenty of good places to eat close by. Room was spacious & overlooking the zoo. Close to the airport, nice hotel.

A good choice, would return anytime. Nice and modern feeling, clean, comfortable bed, welcome letter and birthday wishes in the room. A pool in which you can actually swim and a nice sauna / steam room, unfortunately a seperate quite room is missing ... only chairs are in the pool area.
Disappointed I was about the cocktails at the bar. While they were quite strong, they were not very tasty. Staff is efficient and friendly. Could improve though in regards to a warm welcome touch ...
General Manager personally responded to my survey and promised to act. So hopefully the cocktails are already much better :-)
