It is a small, old facility, but still in good shape. Contrary to what you read at their website, it is 5 stops from Tegel airport on the TXL bus (then a few meters walk). Very friendly checkin staff, traditional key to the rooms (there is one elevator). The room is quite simple and small (I stayed for one night in a single bed room), flatscreen TV, phone, no minibar. Indeed, do not expect soundproof walls, as the building is rather old. The bathroom is - as usual in Germany- well maintained, very clean, but no amenities. The hotel does not offer dinner facilities, but that is no problem at all, as there are several restaurants within a few minutes walk. Try the Paulaner restaurant for instance, it is also very close.

The Hotel has a breakfast room, actually two rooms on the 1st floor - was almost fully occupied as the hotel was popular amongst tourist groups. The selction and quality of food there was very good! Staff was again very friendly and helpful at checkout.
Overall, a good tourist hotel, good location.

stayed 2 night in this friendly hotel a little off the beaten track but bus stops outside
and about a 10 euro taxi ride to the center of berlin.Room rather basic but clean and
adequate but walls are paper thin which meant lack of sleep due to noisy next room.
Breakfast was excellent with very large choice and well presented.

Room Tip: ask for room at rear due to noisy main road at front

It might not have the glass and glitter of bigger hotels but the Tiergarten offers the warmest of welcome from cheerful and helpful staff. The rooms still retain the high ceilings of the original building but have been partitioned to increase the capacity for guests. The on-suites require some negotiation in order to use the facilities, they're tiny and cramped and you would certainly benefit from a quick course in yoga before attempting the visit.
Breakfast was a little shambolic in that a group of hungry Dutch schoolchildren swamped the small dining area meaning that many of the older guests were left to eat breakfast Italian style - standing in the first floor corridors. Our two night stay did involve a worrying lack of seating for breakfast and the management's apology was that the teenagers had been due to breakfast much earlier - clearly someone needs to learn the lesson that the average teenager does not want to get up in the morning.
The original entrance has been closed and the reception desk now sits in a former shop alongside the original. Its fine but there are a few steps up to the lift - wheeled suitcases are awkward to handle and a short ramp would be helpful.
That said, the excellent staff more than made up for the minor annoyances and on the whole, this small quirky hotel offered a very convenient base for exploring Berlin - being on the main TXL bus route and close to the walkway which meanders along the river Spree into the centre of the city.

Room Tip: Check with the hotel if there are any school or group trips before booking

I stayed here with a party of pupils in April. I think it is a great hotel with a reasonably central position, big rooms and an excellent breakfast. I wouldn't dream of coming here on a romantic weekend but if I was part of a big family then it would suit me down to the ground. If you plan a busy time in Berlin and want a decent bolthole then this could be it. It is a bit rough and ready and the air con point is a fair one in previous reviews. But it is clean, there is ample hot water and you can get four in a room. Staff our nice too.
