“Berlin city break....”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Two night stay in January, (Thursday & Friday night)......
It's a bit of a trek with a bag up from Alexanderplatz, (particularly in the snow at -6c!) ~ but (as we found out) tram M2 stops almost outside this hotel, and when you get the hang of the Berlin Trams / buses / U and S Bahn it is all easy....
There are plenty of places to eat reasonably; we were recommended an area just up the road by the receptionist, who was very helpful... and correct!!! ~ We enjoyed a proper German meal and a few Beers in an establishment called 'Gugelhof'........
The Hotel... well a good quality, clean budget option, our room had twin beds, a decent (if small) bathroom with a good shower. We were on the 3rd floor and had a view down to the communication tower and the city. We had managed to book a pre~pay deal at around £46.00 a night which we were very happy with.
There are no tea / coffee facilities in the rooms, but a petrol station (which I think was 24hrs) had a small seating area and sold coffee, sausages, pastries etc and of course beer and softdrinks etc to take away too, which was handy.
Didn't have the breakfast at the hotel; we were quoted 10e each. We Just wanted to get out and get moving...... a nutty pastry, bread roll and coffee was available at a bakers down by Alexanderplatz for 2.70e which fitted the bill for us.
Highly recommended for a simple, clean and friendly base in Berlin.

Room Tip: Ask for a view down towards the communications tower and the city.

Start with the negatives and end on the positives.

Arrived on Friday 04 January 2013 with my wife and the reception staff were extremely rude. The girl who checked us on barely looked at us and neither did her colleague. Not exactly friendly and so different from my last stay. We were instructed to leave our towels on the floor when used and we would get fresh ones, we did, no fresh towels delivered so I called to get them and they were delivered. Maybe pedantic, but after the 'welcome' we thought they were now just being negligent.

The good stuff:
The hotel is clean, comfortable (minus towel incident) and safe. On a budget it's a great find and for location it's brilliant and a 5 minute walk to Alexanderplatz where you can explore Berlin using the public transport as everything seems to go through there.

Would defo go back, as it's a great base.
