“Great beds, but make sure you request a quite room”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

This hotel is well located for touring Berlin, with a tram stop right outside. The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. Unfortunately, my initial room was located at the front of the hote,l above the traffic lights, on the main road. Even with the windows closed, the noise of the traffic made sleeping impossible before 2 a.m. and after 6 a.m. In the morning, I requested a room at the side of the hotel, since I was staying for a further three nights. The management were very helpful and allocated me a different room at the side of the hotel. This second room was perfect for a good night's sleep. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. My stay included St Nicholas' Day, so the hotel left a gift of biscuits, chocolate and fruit outside each room. A nice touch.

Room Tip: Sleep quality is only very good if you are allocated a room on the side of the hotel, away from the...

This hotel is found in the Eastern Part of Berlin. It is surrounded by large blocks with apartments. So if you are looking for nice bars and restaurants nearby the hotel, forget it. We stayed here in August, when it was hot. There was no air conditioning in our room and leaving the window open at night gave a lot of noise from the traffic. Berlin is a 24*7 city. Public transportation is very good in Berlin. You can buy your tickets in the hotel lobby. Breakfast was very nice. Rooms are spacious and clean. Good hotel for visiting Berlin.

Hi,

Only yesterday back from Germany. Stayed in Holiday Inn Berlin City East 13-16 September 2012 in a standard room.

1/ Very pleasant stay overall. Room exceptionally clean. Bathroom is functional with shower and bathtub, a bit dated porcelain and very old-fashioned sink instead of vanity counter. Bathroom amenities include only a piece of soap, a small bottle of shampoo and body lotion. Towels are changed daily.

2/ Room furniture is of minimalist design and shows good maintenance and attention from hotel stuff. All carpets look fresh, armchairs upholstery, bed covers and linen are in perfect condition and pleasant by touch and view. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room and coffee/tea/ creamer/ sugar supply is replenished daily. The color scheme of a room is a combination of green, white and tawny. A bottled water provided is 3,5 euro/ bottle.
At the elevator they also have a vending machine if you care for a soft drink or a seep of wine during the night.

3/ Internet is chargeable. Initial Charge: € 5.5 EUR .

4/ Food. We booked a room with brekky - the quality/ spread/ verity etc is OK and really sufficient for the good start of your day, the presentation is definitely low. The breakfast room is tucked in the corner of the hotel and the place is really small. No room service menu.

5/ Location is OK, no really central, but also NOT in the far corner of the world. 15min tram ride to Alexanderplatz Platz ( M5 or M6 or M8), 700 m from the hotel front door - NP supermarket, right next to the tram stop.

7/ Reception. Every time i stepped in i have a feeling i`m in the busiest railway station. The hotel is popular with tour groups and MASSIVE check-ins are regular. Reception staff is VERY self-centered and sometimes forget that they work in HOSPITALITY business. Lack of smile and politeness is definitely seen.
Reception also sells tickets for public transport - standard tickets and kleinegruppen can be obtained from them.
Being a Priority Reward Gold member i did not have my status recognized by the reception staff and had no privileges offered.

8/ Check-in and -out - efficient, no mistakes, overbooking and other unpleasantness. All our room requirements were met perfectly. Luggage storage facility is a plus when you have a late night flight.

9/ Would I stay there again? Probably, if the price is right. Would I recommend it to a friend? A YES.

Room Tip: all rooms are the same

We were there as a group on May 2012.
The room is very comfortable, and you have all you can wish. It is very clean although there was a bad smell in the bathroom, which they could do nothing about it. The room was some noisy even in the sixth apartment because of the place - by a main road. Isolation between the rooms and in the corridor was excellent.
The hotel is far away of the center, so you can't go anywhere if you have limited time after the activities of the group.
The food in the dining room was very good and varied.
The stuff was very polite, helpful and cooperate. They were ready to help and to save with the computers .But the possibility of using the computer was very problematic. We were there while there were European competitions of Judo for younger. They put themselves the owner of the second computers, very noisy, and there was no one to do something with it.
There is no lobby for meeting of groups, although the hotel is fitting very much to this type of guests - by the price and many other degrees.
In summary: The hotel is far from the center, some noisy and there is a problem of lobby but - there are big fine living rooms, very clean and supplied by every thing you need, and last but not least - nice and helpful stuff in the reception. By all of that, and by the price - it is a good place for groups (which have adjacent bus).

Paid only 40€ (approximately £33) per night for a two night stay in July.

Reception service fantastic with a lovely girl who spoke fluent English and gave us directions to our room in one of the three buildings that make up the hotel, which are all linked to the reception/restaurant by corridor.

One problem we did face was because of our own lack of research as we caught the S-Bahn (overground suburban train) to Landsberger Allee, thinking that it would be very close given that it's on the same street....it isn't! After a 2.5 mile walk in 30 degree heat, we found the hotel (look out for 'Grand City Hotels' written along the length of the building) and also the Hohenschönhauser Str./Weißenseer Weg tram stop which is no more than 2 minutes walk from the hotel, situated on the M5/M6 tram line which runs directly from Alexanderplatz, which is a huge bonus once we'd worked out the travel system! Again that was our own fault from a lack of research and if anything is a huge plus for the hotel once you work out the trams - the M5/M6 line also runs 24 hours a day which is a bonus when out in the city centre in the evening.

The buffet breakfast is better than your usual continental buffet as at least if offered warm options which meatballs and scrambled egg to go alongside the usual cold meat, cheese, pastries etc. A varieties of cereals were also available along with fruit juice, with a flask of coffee already placed on each table.

Thought the hotel itself was in a great shape and can't find a single fault with it - at such cheap prices, it was an absolute steal! ****VERY MUCH RECOMMENDED!!****

Really easy to get from the hotel to central Berlin and you can buy day cards for the public transportation at the reception.

I stayed at this hotel while on business. it is a good value for the money but doesn't offer much as far as atmosphere.

Pros
- Room was inexpensive and clean. Overall the property is clean as well
- Rooms are large
- Multiple restaurant / bars on site. This is a positive as there isn't much within walking distance. The food and drinks were moderately priced
- Staff spoke English and was very helpful
- Business area has free computers with a printer to plan out maps or activities
- Train station was nearby, about half a mile walk. Ride is about 20 minutes to the city center
- Beer is cheaper than bottled water in the vending machines, lol

Cons
- A little removed from the city center and most of the sites you want to see on a trip to Berlin. All can be accessed by train though.
- Not much to eat close by off site. Avoid the little food stand by the train station. i got adventurous one night and ate there. i watched the cook push a fly into one of the spreads rather than pick it out
- Internet is not free, but was given to me as a courtesy which was nice
- Rooms, while large, are pretty nondescript. The bathrooms are modern and nice

Overall i would say this property is a decent value for someone staying outside the city. If you have family or don't care to walk to the train, there are better areas to stay closer to the action. I was there on business in the area and didn't mind the hike up the hill to get to the train, and the cost savings was worth it for me. The closest thing of interest would be the Stasi Museum, but not much else. The bar downstairs seems to attract some local crowd which keeps it lively on Friday or Saturday nights.

Room Tip: There is a supermarket located underground on the corner across from the train station if you want t...
