Owner description: The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors. The memorial is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation, which also includes the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum, the central site dedicated to the history of flight and emigration in divided Germany. MOBILE TOURGUIDE Visitors to the Berlin Wall Memorial who have a smartphone or a tablet computer with internet access at their disposal have the opportunity to select an individual tour of the memorial grounds for themselves on the memorial's mobile website berliner-mauer.mobi.

Something that you have to see and it's very tastefully displayed. Great images and easily accessible.

“Very cool”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

I was expecting the wall to be a bit larger there are just random chunks of wall through out berlin. still very cool. They have a brick path throughout the city so you can see where the wall was and you can tell which was east and west berlin by the street lights.

“Perfect in the snow!”

This area is fascinating if you want to try to understand the history of the wall. From the platform up high you can see the kill zone and how secure it was.

“Thinner than Expected”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

After walking on the great wall of China, I was expecting a large Berlin wall and was shocked to see it so narrow. It changed so many lives in 28 years. It was not as much the wall that was so ominous, but the monitoring tactics to ensure no one crossed the no man's land between east and west Germany.

To see and hear how people were separated from their families when the wall was closed so abruptly and then taken down 28 years later was a piece of history not to be missed.

Rob W. from Sandemans NewBerlin tour provided fantastic insight on the wall, along with stories of how it impacted families, their careers and much more.

It was interesting to see some of the fragments of wall and the checkpoint hut. The checkpoint Charlie museum was very dated and lacked focus.
