This hotel is in a really good location (despite ongoing construction works on the adjacent streets). In the heart of one of Berlin's most popular shopping streets, near the metro station, a short walk to the Brandenberg gate/Tiergarten park, holocaust museuem, museum island and many more attractions.
The area doesn't have many bars very close, although the bavarian beer hall, Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt, is only a couple of blocks away, and serves excellent beer as well as standard German fare for the hungry. The hotel bar is nice but very expensive.
The hotel is very smart, with a large and open lobby / bar area. The grand stairs up to the first floor are nice.
Check in was quick, with apparently helpful staff, however we had to ask for a different room, as - having booked a double bed - we were given twin beds. The move was swift however. We had also asked for a quiet room, and although the noise from the street wasn't very regular, in the second room we did have some morning construction noise. Not a huge problem, but slightly inconvenient.
The room was otherwise excellent with good furnishing, a really comfortable bed, and a good bathroom. The shower had plenty of water pressure, and there was no shortage of good quality toiletries. We only had one bath gown however. Normally, this wouldn't worry me at all, but there is a separate lift to the swimming pool / sauna / spa area, and you are asked to wear gowns to go down. So I asked for a second one, when going out for the evening. It wasn't brought to the room, and I had to call down again the following morning. Again, the error was rectified very quickly, but it was disappointing that the request was not followed the first time.
These were relatively small issues, and we did enjoy the hotel and would return.
