The Westin Grand Berlin
Ranked #112 of 635 Hotels in Berlin

This hotel is in a really good location (despite ongoing construction works on the adjacent streets). In the heart of one of Berlin's most popular shopping streets, near the metro station, a short walk to the Brandenberg gate/Tiergarten park, holocaust museuem, museum island and many more attractions.
The area doesn't have many bars very close, although the bavarian beer hall, Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt, is only a couple of blocks away, and serves excellent beer as well as standard German fare for the hungry. The hotel bar is nice but very expensive.
The hotel is very smart, with a large and open lobby / bar area. The grand stairs up to the first floor are nice.
Check in was quick, with apparently helpful staff, however we had to ask for a different room, as - having booked a double bed - we were given twin beds. The move was swift however. We had also asked for a quiet room, and although the noise from the street wasn't very regular, in the second room we did have some morning construction noise. Not a huge problem, but slightly inconvenient.
The room was otherwise excellent with good furnishing, a really comfortable bed, and a good bathroom. The shower had plenty of water pressure, and there was no shortage of good quality toiletries. We only had one bath gown however. Normally, this wouldn't worry me at all, but there is a separate lift to the swimming pool / sauna / spa area, and you are asked to wear gowns to go down. So I asked for a second one, when going out for the evening. It wasn't brought to the room, and I had to call down again the following morning. Again, the error was rectified very quickly, but it was disappointing that the request was not followed the first time.
These were relatively small issues, and we did enjoy the hotel and would return.

Room Tip: Ask for garden facing for no street noise

The location is the strong point of this hotel. Surprisingly staff spoke really good English. Rooms are okay. Some noise from the construction but not too bad. But that depends on the location of the room though. If we ever visit Berlin again, we stay here again.

I say "more than pleased" as a counter to the many negative comments we read on this site beforehand regarding U-Bahn construction on Friedrichstrasee. We were prepared for the worst but experienced zero inconvenience. Our room was away from the const area, but the noise sensitive couple we were traveling with were on the 2nd floor overlooking Freidrichstrasse, they had not a complaint. Out on the street the above ground construction action was negligible.
Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was a treat to behold.
We'd stay at the Westin Grand Berlin again in a minute.

The prime location was the main reason why I chose this hotel for our group of 6 and I felt so good that I made the right choice. I corresponded with the concierge (Lutz, Andre, etc) via email and they were all patient and helpful. I felt like I knew Lutz when I met him in person. Lutz helped me book a tour of Potsdam which we really enjoyed. Another concierge patiently helped me with issues with our boarding passes, unfortunately, I cannot remember his name. The rooms were quite nice with comfortable beds and my group loved the amazing breakfast. We missed it when we started our tour of the Balkans and Transylvania. Overall, the staff treated us well and we would certainly stay here again when we return to Berlin.

The property is of course lovely and clean and all the things you would expect from a hotel of this level, however the beds were stiff and unforgiving (mine was at least).

The staff were AMAZING, every person spoke perfect English despite my attempts at practicing my German and attempting to speak to them in broken Deutsch.

In room WiFi is a bit expensive €19 for 24 hours and WiFi is incredibly difficult to get in Berlin, so if you must be connected make sure you're ready to for over the Euros or get a prepaid sim from one of the many mobile providers.

Overall the hotel was excellent with great proximity to a lot of things including the trains to get to other areas of the city other than Tourist-Town which is where this hotel is located.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the courtyard side, it's quieter and you can open your little french doors...

Previous reviews by other members already spoke of the ultimate convenience of this hotel's location. We ended up walking to most attractions starting from the hotel in the morning, and taking the subway back at the end of each day. Freshened up in the room, and then walked to any of the nice restaurants (of all price ranges) nearby. What a way to experience this great city!

Then we watched the movie "Bourne Supremacy" when we were back home surfing the TV channels this past weekend, and realized that the hotel is featured heavily in the movie. Sure brought back a lot of fond memories.

We stayed here recently for 5 nights in Sept; one note, we are both SPG platinum members and stayed on points.
Great location, close to many of the sites in town ... yes, there is construction next door and on the street, but it did not get in the way plus their is construction happening all over the city .. not really an issue.
Check-in was fast and friendly; we were upgraded to a Spa Suite which was a very nice room. Comfy bed; great bathroom ...
We did have breakfast included daily; nice selection for sure though we were confused on what was available to us with only the continental breakfast versus the buffet .. plus no one told us the difference.
The hotel was also very helpful in booking a few dinner reservations for us prior to our arrival. Overall a very good experience (just not excellent) and we would stay here again when we return to Berlin next time.
