Stayed here for one night for business.

Hotel is in a great location (close to checkpoint Charlie) and has a good looking interior. Great lobby / entrance which has an round open column all the way to the top floor with the rooms situated around it.

Modern looking rooms (assume this Westin has had a fairly recent refurb because it looked well maintained and modern) with lots of work space (I had a standard double I think)

Very pleasant staff. I stayed on a pre-agreed company rate of €145 incl. breakfast, which I thought was very reasonable for the location and hotel. Other places and cities are definately more expensive...

Given the location, think this would also be a great hotel for tourists (there were actually quite a few staying over when I was there)

Overall a decent hotel. Lobby is really amazing, but don’t try to have a drink or anything, prices are double compared to the street. Rooms are ok (usual "Berlin-scam", see below). Rooms are not as clean as they may seem. I had a look under the top mattress and found a LOT of hair and food (I do this check in all hotels, and have never seen this before).

What you need to know before booking a hotel room in Berlin is that there seems to be a common scam in this city. Room prices are cheap, but they seem to take their profits from Internet and breakfast. At this hotel wi-fi was 20e/day or 7e/hour. Breakfast was 30e/person. And oh yeah, one litre of water was 8 euro!!! You can get a bottle of water for 20 cents in the store! And don't even get me started on the minibar prices :)

If you’re smart, walk 50m from the hotel to the nearest cafeteria ("Einstein") and have breakfast for two+water+wi-fi for 10 euro instead of the 90e it would cost you in the hotel.

Dear guest, first of all we thank you that you have tried our hotel and we thank you for submitting your opinion in regards to the prices. We always try to fulfil the expectations of our guests even there are different conceptions of the service of a luxury hotel. Of course the prices differ from low budget hotels but are similar as in other luxury hotels in the city. All the more you can expect a top cleaned room and you can be assured that we will look after that even more than so far. Yours sincerely, Andrea W., Executive Office

From the moment you enter the building and are greeted by the Grand staircase you know you are in the right place. The hotel is situated in an almost perfect spot on Unter den linden street, with an easy walk to some of the best sights. The rooms are very good by Westin Standards, and designed to be soothing. The bed of course was heavenly, and so was the shower. I especially liked the music in the bathroom. All of the staff were very professional, and took time to help in any way you needed. My favorite part of this hotel had to be the breakfast. It was phenomenal, with soo many things to choose from. I probably gained 5 pounds in Berlin because of the breakfast. I would really like to thank some of the staff for being extra kind, the porters for being quick and friendly, Franzisca at the front desks for being extra welcoming, and their concierge for providing us with great tips and reservations at Fischers Fritz the only 2 Michelin star restaurant in Berlin. If you are headed to Berlin, you would be wise to choose this hotel.

While the room we had, sixth floor facing the courtyard, was a bit smaller than I expected everything worked including the AC on what was a warm day for Berlin. We did not eat in the hotel but did take advantage of the gym as well as the surrounding shopping. I liked the location of this hotel better than the Hyatt that I stayed in earlier in the trip though the rooms lack the style and polish of that hotel.

Service was excellent and the weekend rate we got seemed a bargain after some of the other hotels I have stayed at in Berlin. Not a five star property in my view but a very good hotel in a great location and with five star service.

Obviously once a grand luxury hotel this place is starting to show it's age but that by no means effects your stay. Ask for a courtyard view, we originally had a road view which was ok but after they started roadworks the next morning I asked to be moved and they happily put us in a nice spacious room overlooking a large central garden that was very peaceful and you could open a large set of double doors to let the fresh air in. Bring your tog's as the pool & spa area is well worth a visit. Best thing is it's located in one of Berlin's premier area's. There was some very nice restaurants close by that had fantastic food and a stunning wine list with both French, Italian and Australian high end vintages. 10 min walk to check point Charlie in one direction and 10min walk to the brandenburg gates & the reichstardt in the other.. Book ahead and get a good rate and spoil yourself..

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard view room

We stayed at the Berlin Westin Grand on a weekend trip to Berlin. A cab from the airport to the hotel should cost you around 15-20 Euros. I would say the hotel is ideally suited for both couples as well as the discerning business traveller.

Location:
The hotel is located in the 'Mitte' area of Berlin, just off the famous 'Unter den Linden' on Friedrichstr. in the Upper East side of Berlin. The area is now known for shopping, eating and of course sightseeing, with many of the famous and historic buildings, churches and museums in easy walking reach. The Brandenburg Tor is located a short 10-15 minute walk away down Unter den Linden, whilst Check Point Charlie the same distance along Friedrichstr.
In terms of location, the Westin couldn't really be located in any better place.

Service & Amenities:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Westin. The staff genuinely seemed happy to be working there and this showed in the way they felt at ease interacting with customers and went about their tasks. Every staff member from the front desk, porters, waiting staff, room service were genuinely friendly and always ready to help without being over bearing.

The lobby atrium is pretty pleasing on the eye and adds to the atmosphere of the hotel. The ground floor bar provides food, drinks and service with a smile.

The rooms are well appointed, ours having been a Deluxe room on the 6th floor. Perhaps a little bit on the smallish side but the quality of fixtures and fittings and comfort of the king bed certainly made up for this.

The Spa boasts 3 separate Saunas catering for different temperature thresholds, Whirl pool and a nice in door pool. There is also a gym and a well-being centre catering for massage and beauty treatments. Highly recommended.

One criticism is the cost of the hotel internet, which is far too expensive considering how accessible, widespread and necessary the Internet access is these days. Hotels are generally a little slow in realizing that overpricing Internet access in their establishments is counter conducive. Smaller hotel groups are catching on to this and are offering Internet access to their patrons at no extra cost. Starwood should take note and follow this lead sooner rather than later.

On the plus side, I did receive a personalized response to the hotel feedback from I left when we checked out. The letter from the hotels Executive Office arrived within a week of getting home, thanking me for my views and opinions and welcoming me back to the Berlin Westin.
A big gold star - I believe organizations taking the time to respond to customers' feedback deserve an extra pat on the back as they are actually seen to take on board what their customers are saying to them. So...well done Berlin Westin!

All in all the hotel is a great place with a great atmosphere - the staff very friendly and I would certainly recommend the Berlin Westin to my friends and family. I can safely say you will enjoy your stay there. Keep up the good work Berlin Westin!

Room Tip: Always ask nicely is probably the best tip I could give!
