Running through the Tiergarten is a highlight of any visit to Berlin, anytime of year.

Be sure to visit the Russian War Memorial in the park near the Reichstag.

You (or your kids) should like animals, but this goes without saying. The combi ticket tiergarten + aquarium is worth the deal, but take care to visit zoo pavilions first, as in winter they close at 16.45 and the closing time is very strict, while the aquarium stays open till 18.00.
Best parts? Reef sharks in the aquarium, friendly seals and lions (we got to see them roaring) in the zoo.
Worst part? They kicked us out of the feline pavilion at 16.44, with no "going back to see the tigers" allowed.

Huge "green" area in the centre of Berlin. It is a great place to stroll around wth loads of wildlife popping up all over the place.

In Under Den Linden get on the bus 100 to the Zoological Gardens which goes down one side of the Garden. Then get the bus 200 back along the other side. It had been snowing in Berlin so this was a cheap warm way of seeing a lot. It was pointed out that there are hardly any trees with large trunks in Berlin because if they hadn't been bombed they were cut down for firewood. All the trees we saw had been planted since the war. If you want to extend your trip to Charlottenburg Schloss get on the bus 109 from Zoological Garden.
