on arrival we were offered a room with (supposedly) view of brandenberg gate for an extra 100 euros per day. the only view we got was the back of scaffolding and stage for us president which we were told was the following day for one day only so we thought that would be ok. then we were told we couldn't go near the windows and the curtains had to be closed we wouldn't be allowed to use the entrance of the hotel before 6pm. so we went out for the day taking a taxi back about 5 as it was 35degrees and we were extremely tired by this time(my companion is 90yrs old) the taxi man said he couldn't take us to the rear entrance as the road was closed so we had to get out and walk it took us 35mins to find the rear entrance as the police had sent us to the wrong place.so we were looking forward to the scaffolding being removed and all the tv lorries to leave in front of our window unfortunately only a third was removed by the next evening so still no view of the gate or indeed the following day. it was finally all removed by Friday lunch time so we had a view for all of ten minutes before we had to check out at noon that's about 30euros a minute must be the most expensive view in the world!! . we would have never paid the extra if we had known total ripoff. what was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime and birthday treat was ruined completely.

Room Tip: make sure the us president wont be in town otherwise you will be a prisoner in the hotel or have to stay out all day

We have spent 3 nights at the Adlon Kempinski. The hotel is situated close to the Brandenberg Tor(gate). Also within easy walking distance to a main shopping street in the previous East Berlin, Friedrickstrasse. The room was well appointed but not overly large. The staff was curtious and attentive as you would minimally expect from a "5" star hotel. Having staid at numerous 5 star hotels around the world, the Adlon would not rank above the top half.

No doubt that this is a top quality hotel. There was a problem with our booking which turned out to be their fault and which they quickly rectified and gave us an upgrade to a junior suite by way of an apology.
The room itself was excellent with a lounge area and table with chairs, a dressing room off the bedroom and both separate bath and shower off the bedroom as well. There was a TV in both the lounge and bedroom with a good selection of British TV channels.
Location wise the Brandenburg Gate is 100 metres away, the Reichstag about 10 minutes walk away and behind the hotel about 10 minutes to the Jewish War memorial. In addition you are at the top end of the Tiergarden - a huge green space.
I had read prior to our visit that some of the staff had a poor attitude, but I personally have nothing but praise for their attitude ands service which was excellent throughout our stay.
My criticism is reserved for the prices both of anything in the mini-bar and the bar itself, I really don't feel there is any justification for such high prices given that you are already paying a premium price to stay.
My tip would be to go right out of the hotel, take the 1st right, go down past the British Embassy and a further 400 metres down on the right is a place called "City Market" which stays open until at least 10-30 in the evening and has reasonably priced snacks and alcohol.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Brandenburg Gate.

As one of our German friend's said, Hotel Adlon Kempinski is Berlin's Best!. We had a wonderful experience. Its right in the heart of central Berlin. You walk out of the hotel on to the famous Unter den Linden street. Hotel Adlon is in one of the historical Berlin buildings. A few yards away is the Brandenburg Gate and the site of Berlin wall. U-Bahn and other public transport is a few steps from the hotel. Upon request concierge had day passes for ready for us. There are bicycles for rent at the hotel. We had a great tour of the city on bicycles. Breakfast at Adlon is an experience!. In fact, staying at Hotel Adlon is an experience and we would go back when we can afford the luxury again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the south side and east side. They were both great!

Great stay at the Adlon.
Fantastic suite, very nice breakfast and amazing service.
The location is perfect!
We were thinking of staying either at the Adlon or at the Rome and were very happy to take a room at the Adlon since our stay here was no less than perfect.
Will definately stay here again in our next stay in Berlin.
