“Fantastic!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

It is near to the Friedrichstr station.
Real fantastic show, similar to Las Vegas.
Cheerful song, dance, dizzying acrobatics and circus!

“Worth an Evening in Berlin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Should be seen once in Berlin during a free evening. Location is super because you can then leave the Palast and have a great time along one of the fine typical Berlin Kneipen along the Spree. Also near all public transportation.

“A fun evening after a day of being 'museumed out'.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

OK it does not fully match up to a reputable Las Vegas show nevertheless 'Show Me' was entertaining and on this particular evening visited mostly by German tourists.

Tip for tickets: if you are not going for the V.I.P seats, book Row C in the middle (Euros 60,00). However, the auditorium is very well designed and the stage is in view from all angles and heights.

The revolving stage, pop ups, lighting, laser effects, special effects, sound effects choreography are amazing and the costumes are stunning. The dance in the sand pit as well as the acrobatic swimming is good. Good quality singers who sang in English in the first half of the show. The Chinese acrobatic act was daring, graceful and artistic. The duo Aragorn on the trapeze deserved a standing ovation. Big orchestra and electric ambiance.

There are lifts to all floors and dress is casual to fineries. Worth a visit if you have sufficient time while in Berlin.

Thank you very much for visiting the Palast and for your positive review.

Since you come from London, we consider it a very nice coincidence that THE SUNDAY TIMES on July 7, 2013 has also given a positive recommendation to visit the show, "like the locals do". It's true, 40 percent of our guests are living in Berlin, almost 20 percent are international guests, and 40 percent are German tourists from outside Berlin.

Here's the quote. Under the headline “Live like a local – Berlin” THE SUNDAY TIMES wrote about the Dos and don'ts in Berlin: “LOCALS DON'T: Miss a great evening out at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. It’s Europe’s biggest revue show and known as “Las Vegas in Berlin”. It really is a fantastic spectacle with music, dance and awesome special effects. It’s very visual – you don’t have to speak German to enjoy it.”

“The Vegas side to Berlin - Show Me at Friedrichstadt Palast”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Don't tick this off your Berlin to-do list, erase it once and for all!

I had gargantuan expectations for "Show Me" at the Friedrichstadt Palast. With its flashy advertisement plastered on every one of Berlin's ubahns, sbahns and strasses, and its tickets well worth over 30 Euros, I thought this was going to be some sort of groundbreaking, breathtaking, life-changing theatre experience. I've done a lot of musicals in New York and thought this was going to be way better than that considering its the biggest show in all of Europe. But what I found instead were below average acrobats, cheesy singers and a crowd that had come straight from the nursing home for a night out.

It's a show you must attend if it's either too cold outside to go out or raining cats and dogs or if you've done pretty much everything else on your Berlin to do list. Otherwise, save all that money and sit in a pretty park instead.

Before I start complaining about all of the show's faults, I have to admit, the advertisements had warned me well in advance. "Las Vegas in Berlin" the text on them screamed and a picture of a woman in what seemed like a really photoshopped dress which looked like it had been made out of water seemed to suggest some amount of cheesiness But considering I'm such a big fan of Broadway and musicals, I went anyway.

While the palace itself is gorgeous and the waiting areas remind you of Berlin's 20s and 30s glory, the actual show has absolutely no storyline. There is nothing humorous in it and there are no dialogues at all. With no dialogues, language makes no difference whatsoever. The singers are far below something you'd hear at Broadway and the acrobats are far below what you would see at Cirque Du Soleil. But if you like big theatres with a seating capacity of 2000 people, elaborate moving stages, 150 plus performers doing their thing, then this might be the thing for you. The historic building which was built in 1919 was one of the last buildings made in the GDR.

Its saving grace is probably the theatre size, its glamorous lounges especially the Sky Lounge where 6 people with very fat wallets get to experience an unparalleled view from the top of the theatre and drinks from their private bar. The music also varies from cheesy pop to blues, jazz, rock and electronic - so there's something for everyone. The opening and finale costumes have been designed by Parisian haute couture designer Christian Lacroix and probably cost a fortune.

Some of the better performances were from Acrobatic Troupe Shenyang and this particular performance on Christina Aguilera's Beautiful. The singing sequences were very karaoke and lacked any and all originality.

In the end, it's simply a matter of taste. If you like big productions that cost over 9 million euros, some aimless entertainment that doesn't require you to move your butt, this might just be the thing for you!

It's sad you didn't like our show.

The undoubtedly very reputed London newspaper THE SUNDAY TIMES as of July 7, 2013 sees it completely different. Under the headline „Live like a local: Berlin" they wrote:

„LOCALS DON’T: Miss a great evening out at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. It’s Europe’s biggest revue show and known as “Las Vegas in Berlin”. It really is a fantastic spectacle with music, dance and awesome special effects. It’s very visual – you don’t have to speak German to enjoy it. See show-palace.eu/en”

Maybe you were disappointed because you came to us with false expectations. You write that you are a big fan of musicals and Broadway. But we don't play musicals and we are not Broadway-like. That's why the SUNDAY TIMES writes about "Las Vegas in Berlin", not Broadway nor London West End.

We play the world's biggest ensuite revue shows (with more than 100 artists) on the largest theatre stage in the world. Revue shows usually have no strong story-telling (please see also Wikipedia on that).

With half a million visitors per year the Palast is the # 1 entertainment stage in Berlin and the whole of Germany. Almost 20 percent are international guests.
