I did not enter this attraction once I was confronted with the demand to pay at the door. Whiel the services are free, it is mandatory to pay to enter the church outside of church service hours. I find this unacceptable, that the cathedral management makes no allowance for persons coming for silent prayer between services. This is unchristian in the extreme.

I really liked this place, especially the cript downstairs full of amazing old coffins. The ceiling inside cathedral is amazing.

We were walking from Museum Island (where the Pergamon Museum is) and came by this gem. Its only a few minutes walk from the museums. The inside of the Cathedral is astounding. There are beautiful religious artifacts, coffins from famous kings and queens, an amazing organ, impressive altars, and intricate paintings on the ceilings.

I highly recommend to walk up the stairs to the circular observation deck on the top. You will get a great 360 degree view of the city. Its higher than one thinks. There are quite a large number of stairs, so its only for the fit.

There is a small cover charge because the cathedral belongs to a private independent religious order or something, so it has to support itself.

My friend an I were out early on Saturday, Nov. 23rd. We got to the Dom and paid the fee to get in with modest expectations. When we walked in we were completely in awe of the choir and small orchestra rehearsing for the next day's performance. It was magical. When they were finished we strolled the rest of the grounds. If you're in shape I highly recommend going all the way to the top. Circling the outside of the dome the bells began to ring announcing the midday mass. When we got downstairs the huge pipe organ was making a joyful noise. Couldn't have been better.

Why not attend a service? Great music, translation of the service, you can really experience the majesty of the cathedral the way it was intended.
