Owner description: This ornate Protestant cathedral is one of Berlin's best known landmarks.

One of the most unique protestant cathedrals you will ever see. A unique building that has been restored to its former glory. Its a long slog but make sure you go to the top of the dome for views across Berlin. If you have a 'welcome Berlin' travel ticket you get 40% off the entrance price.

Listened to the Bach Christmas Oratorio in the beautiful domed cathedral, stunning ceilings, massive organ, what more could you want!

My best best cathedral visit ever, even better than the famous ones in Italy, of course except the Vatican. It has everything you expect to see in a old historic cathedral. It's in perfect condition, also has a small museum exhibit. The best part is the doom walk that you get to walk around the outside of the doom and see the city. The 7 euro ticket is a bargain; and plan to spend a hour and half there.

It is absolutely magnificent especially the altar there is a large organ and a lovely pulpit a all hand carved. You can go upstairs and there is models of the buildings it is like a small museum and you can go further up and walk around the dome and then right to the top which I didn't attempt. There is a crypt which is huge and you can get headphones so you can hear all the history.

For people with a mobility issue Berlin is flat and easy to get around. However, the same cannot be said for some of the sights. The Cathedral is an example. The main entrance to the Cathedral is down a side road with many steps leading to the doors. (The right hand side of the building fronts the main road) There is no ramp and signage for disability access is poor. In fact to get in you have to go down to the left hand side of the building and buzz a caretaker to open the gates and take you in through the goods elevator.
Once inside the Cathedral is beautiful. The main dome is very ornate with light shining through the centre piece. Around the dome are lovely gilt edged paintings.
The altar is a lovely piece of craftsmanship and is looked down on by magnificent art work depicting the birth, crucifixion and rising of Christ. The pulpit is also a compliment to the craftsmen as well. I did not experience it, but can only imagine what a service would be like here with the massive pipe organ playing and a choir singing along.
All in all the Cathedral is magnificent, all but I little tricky to get into if you have a mobility issue.
Oh, to get out you need to find a caretaker to take you out the same way you came in. I know it is an old building but better access or signage would be nice.
