The cafe attached to the Cathedral shop can be accessed without going into the Cathedral. Coffee and cakes are good if rather expensive BUT they charge for using the toilet - totally unacceptable.

Placed in the Museum Island, quite a new complex that houses the main tourist attractions in Berlin. I had the chance to listen a organ concert and it was truly outstanding, something I will never forget.

We waited for the tour, and ended up just the two of us with the guide speaking English. A fascinating summary of the history, architecture and symbology of the building. Took us a while to realise that 'evangelical' in the German church is nearer to anglican than presbyterian. The exhibition of models from the time of the church being built was interesting, while the huge crypt of sarcophagi gave a real feel for the historic lineage of the Hohenzollerns although it was so sad to see the many children's coffins. Don't like heights so bailed out of the trip up the dome. Visited the cafe (one of the ubiquitous Einstein Coffeeshops) underneath for coffee and large slices of cake. Good value although they do hurry you out once you've finished.

baroque/rococo exterior which looks fabulous. you can enjoy the garden outside also busy with students n tourists.
on the inside. lame interior and it takes you ages to climb to the top where you can get a panoramic view of berlin but its worth it. and its also the burial place of the hohenzollern family, you get to grand tombs which are extremely rich in gold decoration ont he entrance to the cathedral and the rest of the family down in the basement.

4 euro entrance fee or wait until 1800 for a free entry when there is a service going on. much more than expected. the main space of the cathedral was disappointingly small, but there was a good exhibition upstairs with many scaled architecture models and drawings; also the walk up to the top of dome was excellent, can see the whole berlin from the top. there was also a crypt.
