This boulevard, beloved of paintings and novelists, is lovely when the lime trees are in full bloom. But in high summer, it gets very not. In winter, it's unbearably ugly. Why do tourists flock to it? Hurry towards the eastern end where historical buildings amass - museums, Humboldt, churches, palaces. But be warned: in winter, it's grey, windy, muddy or dusty, no shelter, cranes every corner, and full of tourists traps.

Went here to do some souvenir shopping on our last day in Berlin (recommended by TripAdvisor). Almost all of the shops have the same products displayed. Some are more high quality which makes it more expensive, and vice versa. The further the shop from Bradenburger Tor, the less expensive the souvenirs are. However, because it is Europe now every souvenir seems so expensive. I bought a women's tee with 'berlin' logo for like 19EUR and that's the cheapest value I can find in Unter den Linden.

The famous street is great for a 2 hour walk, with numerous cafés, shops and an endless stream of tourists,
Make sure to end the walk at Brandenburg gate, as it is by far the nicest thing to see on the street.

We went to Unter den Linden many times during our 4 night stay in Berlin for the Christmas Markets, we went on a wonderful City Tour of the Illuminations from the Kurdamm. Unter den Linden tree were decorated with white rope lights which gave an eerie outline to every tree and the view up the road was wonderful. Yes there is building work on several lengths of the road but I think this is an ongoing plan to upgrade the area and by no means the only work going on or that has been done over the years, it did not ruin our enjoyment. We went several times in the day and enjoyed a visit to The Berlin Story, which I cannot find on Trip Advisor to review but well worth a visit to explore the history of Berlin.

The walk from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate will be really great when the construction work has finished!

Not nice at the minute but as they say, "If you want to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs".
