“Two great nights out”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Enjoyable modern productions - if you want something more traditional the other two Berlin opera houses might be better for you. Helpful box office staff, multi-lingual subtitles, 25% off with the Berlin welcome card. Reasonable ticket prices - my stalls seat was €35 with the welcome discount.

“Good music, easy to get to”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I like opera, but insist on having it translated, and this opera house has subtitles in front of you in English. Tickets for opera are always pricey, but this was OK. They do "Foyer Concerts" on Sunday Mornings. I enjoyed the one I went to (Mozart) with superb musicians. Short walk from Brandenburg Gate.

“Exhilarating opera experience”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

I was pleased with Komische Opern even before our visit; I had a lot of questions and all my emails were promptly replied to. It was also very kind to warn us about the violent nature of one of the productions. We decided against it, and were later lucky to get tickets to Die Zauberflöte, which was just exhilarating. The style of production, while completely different from the traditional one, was funny, very ingenious and completely suitable in style for this opera.

“Different from the rest”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

THe Komische Oper in what was once East Berlin offers up interesting and provocative productions of standard and not so standard operas. It is more interesting than the stand opera house in Berlin - Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper. They are the only opera house in Berlin that has titles in the back of the seat so you can choose you language of translation? German, English, Turkish or French. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it will be interesting and you will understand what the singers are singing. I highly reccomend the Monteverdi operas. And afterwards you can drop by the Westin Grans for a drink.

“A prettier opera house than you expect.”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

we saw Hansel and Gretel with a huge family audience - everyone enjoyed the modern colourful production. The seatbacks have 4 languge surtitles. Foyer is very elegant and spacious. Takes a bit of finding with road works on Uder den Linden. Box office is No 41 and very helpful - 25% off price with Welcome Card. Theatre is behind the main road.
