The Brandenburg Gate is such a central part of so much German (and world) history, so of course it's a must-see stop while you're in Berlin. I was surprised that the construction is so massive, when I found the surrounding square to be relatively small -- considering how many thousands of people would crowd around it during big moments throughout history. You can easily stop by for a few moments just to take it in while exploring other parts of the area nearby - very walkable and enjoyable. Or, you can really get to know the history with a guided tour.

So it looks great, but there isn't really much to see. It's just for a couple of pictures, and that's it.

I advise going early in the morning or late at night for the best possible views. I visited at dawn and the eerily quiet accompanying the light from the columns was terrifying in the best possible way. Highly recommend anyone in this area to visit.

Take the hop on , hop off walking tour. You will also see the hotel next door and hear about the only 2 things/buildings still standing in Berlin after the war.The the left of the gate visit the ROOM OF SILENCE.
