Book a meal in the restaurant at the top of the Reichstag Dome.
Fantastic view. Be sure to get to your reservation at least 45 minutes early --so you have ample time to explore the Reichstag.

Don't miss this, if you do nothing else in Berlin. Make sure you book in advance from the UK to save queuing.

With German efficiency you are sluiced to the start of the walkway that spirals its way to the top of the steel and glass dome above the plenary Chamber of the German parliament building - The Bundestag. Supplied with an audioguide (the one's for children are in German only) you are guided on a fascinating journey to the observation platform at the top. Along the way you are explained the rooftop views, about the dome structure designed by British architect Lord Norman Foster, a brief history of the Reichstag itself and of Berlin in general. Back at the bottom of the dome you can wander freely round the roof terrace and take photographs without the impediment of glass reflections. The Bundestag Visitors' Service also offers guided tours of the building. For the dome tour you are requested to register online (www.bundestag.de/htdocs_e/visits/formular.html) for security purposes and present your passport before the x-ray check. Alternatively, there is an office for registration by the visitors' centre but expect a queue. The best of all it's free!!!!

Too crowded, not much info made available easily about the history of the place (unless you buy one of their books from the Souvenir shop).

We made a tour of the dome before eating in the rooftop restaurant and loved every minute. It is a fantastic way to see the city and, because admission numbers are controlled, it wasn't too busy so our views were perfect. We visited just as night fell so saw the sights in daylight and then enjoyed seeing the city light up. A wonderful experience!
