“It was bigger than I thought..”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Great monument and bigger than I thought. There was a lot of restoration going on so that disturbed the feeling a bit. Nice square next to Br Tor with a lot of people...was a hungerstrike going on (for Syrians) and lots of people in old military clothes that wanted to take a photo of you and have money for that.

“Get away from the crowds”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Just loved this place. Worth the time spent to get there. Jump on the U3, U9 or S1, Go in summer evenings and it is only 3 euros, normally 6. There is a cafe there or there is the restaurant “Landhaus”: at the entrance “Unter den Eichen”, Open 10-6. It's just peaceful!

“What a disappointment”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We were looking forward to seeing the glass houses here, but from the very start it didn't go well. The ticket seller at the gates was surly and we thought 6E each was a bit steep. The gardens themselves were unkempt and in poor condition. One of the large glasshouses was closed for renovation. However the other two we went into were nice. We also went to the café located next to the glasshouses. Awful coffee and stale food. Not a good experience at all. Cant recommend.

“Tranquil oasis”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We were not intending to visit this botanical garden ( which we hadn't heard of before our arrival in Berlin) but decided that it would be worth a trip on an unexpected sunny day. We had the Berlin welcome card, so entrance was only 3 Euros and we were amazed at what we found! The site is enormous and beautifully laid out with large wooded sections accessed by small pathways and areas displaying plants from all sorts of geographical habitats spread out across the area. There is a large lake and also at least one smaller stream that we came across deep in the undergrowth where some small wild birds must be accustomed to being fed by visitors, because they were happy to land on your arm! We also saw several unusual small mice with dark stripes running down their backs. In the more formal garden areas, such as the cottage garden and the area in front of the green houses, was a vast array of flowers and lots of bees and butterflies pollinating the plants all over. All ponds seemed to have huge numbers of frogs living in them. Some of the greenhouse spaces and a few garden areas were closed due to renovation and construction work, but there was still plenty to see and do. The coffee shop was also excellent. Despite being only casual admirers of botanical gardens and not avid gardeners, we loved this place simply for its beauty and the variety of species on show. They really should publicise the garden more widely as they were certainly worth a visit and I'm sure that many visitors to Berlin don't realise that it exists! I would certainly return and plan a longer visit ( we stayed for about 2 1/2 hours and didn't really get to explore the grounds as much as we would have liked).

“Well worth a visit ”
Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

You should reserve ahalf a day to visit the full extent of the park. Even if you don't plan to explore it throughly, you'll find plenty spaces to relax. There are seasonal trails and a complex of greenhouses. There were a few concerts being advertised.
