“DesignYour Own Chocolate Bar!”

If you are in Berlin, this is a fun stop! Aside for being able to purchase all kinds of the famous Ritter sport chocolate, you can design your own! There was a line for the "do it yourself" but is moved fairly quickly. Essentially you pick white, dark or milk chocolate and then pick three ingredients to add to your bar. They have a wide range, everything from pop rocks and marshmallow to raspberries and chili. After about a 30 minute wait you return to pick up your personally designed and packaged Ritter Sport chocolate bar.

Here you can find loads of chocolate, found many flavors that aren't available in my country. The store was really packed and there was a long queue if you wanted to make your own chocolate bar. It was really cheap too, and there are many different kinds of gift options if you want to take some chocolate home and give away.

The café upstairs has a variety of cakes and beverage - most of it made with Ritter Sport chocolate.

The shop itself has a bunch of Ritter Sport in various sizes, all the way from the small Mini, to the regular 100g sizes to oversized 250g.
You can also have them make your very own Ritter Sport - "only" €3.9, however, do expect some queue.

I grew up in Berlin. I am a chocoholic. Ritter Sport is my favourite chocolate. A huge shop dedicated to all things Ritter Sport, where you can even design your own chocolate.... this should be heaven, right?

Sadly it is a staggering display of failed opportunities, showing only how not to do it and offering little fun or pleasure in the process.

Firstly all the chocolate, it's great, tastes delicious, huge variety for all tastes - but Ritter Sport is not a niche brand, it's widely available in any German supermarket, at about half the price of the Schokowelt store.

Secondly the chance to design your own chocolate (wow!), I loved the idea and couldn't wait. Sadly wait is mostly what we had to do. When we got to choose our ingredients (the variety it good) the lady serving us was rude and in a great hurry. You better know exactly what you want, don't ask questions, get on with it, and quickly.... I know she was busy but she was also very busy making it clear that customers were an inconvenience to her. No magic wasted here.
Then you have to wait for a fairly long time for your creation to set, and then join another long queue to pick it up at a specific time. Here two of the shop assistants were busy engaging in an argument with each other, every once in a while stopping to hand over chocolate without eye contact, a smile, or greeting. So that sucked the last bit of joy or excitement out of it.

The chocolate museum upstairs is shabby and boring, with little to see, try, touch or learn. Another wasted opportunity.

Lastly the cafe... ooooh the menu looks delicious, so many things that I would love to try. Sadly I haven't had the opportunity, as on the first of our visits (yes we came back for more, hoping the first visit was just bad luck, it wasn't) the cafe was about to close in 30 minutes (!) so we could only order coffee whilst the other chairs were being put up on tables all around us. On the second visit we waited about 20 minutes trying to order, but got ignored and eventually just left.

My tip, go to any supermarket and buy as much Ritter Sport as you can carry. Don't bother with the Schokowelt.

Really fun store to go to. The Ritter chocolate is very famous and you can find all kinds there and all formats. You can even have them make your own chocolate recipe!! The little café inside is nice as well for a short break. Great for a "lighter" visit.
