I approached the hotel without much expectations after reading other reviews, however I need a place that is close enough to Ku'damm and public transports that fit my budget so Sir FK it is.
Arrived just before noon, check-in was smooth, the staff was very friendly and couldn't be more helpful where I was given WiFi passwords, a city map and my questions answered.
The room I stayed in has an odd shape as it is built around the lift shaft, I thought the lift would keep me awake but I couldn't hear anything, the slamming doors was annoying but fortunately no slamming at night. As other reviews, the decor is very modern and thoughtful but the dirty white wall was a let down.
The bed was comfortable and the room was bright with ample storage space, I could also open the window during the day and the air conditioning made it comfortable to sleep at night. Although facing Kantstrasse on the 2nd floor, I hardly noticed the traffic noise.
The shower has good water pressure but the exhaust fan wasn't working, making the windowless bathroom rather stuffy after a shower - towels doesn't dry properly as a result. The toiletries supplied by Rituals were a luxury.
The Nespresso machine is a good idea but no kettle for making tea, the mini fridge was handy to store my food and beverage bought from the nearby Edeka mini market. The hotel charge EUR18 for breakfast which I thought was over the top, there are many cafes and bakeries around the hotel that offer cheaper alternatives.
Hotel's location was excellent, I've never been to Berlin but I managed to get there from Tegel airport taking 2 buses via Zoologischer Garten depot. The S Bahn from Savignyplatz also take me straight to Hauptbahnhof and Alexanderplatz and the Ku'damm shopping area is just 20 minutes walk away. There are some good restaurants on the opposite side of Savignyplatz - Dicke Wirtin was my favourite for a friendly atmosphere and good German fare.
I would stay there again.
