“The best italian food and wine in Berlin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

Osteria Centrale is the best italian restaurant in Berlino! Chef Roberto chooses for his dishes hight quality ingredients and he prepares his recipes inspired by the italian food tradition.
Roberto’s Cooking is an experience of tradition and renewal: you’ll find something you don’t expect! For every dish is essential to taste one of the italian wine available.

The place is very comfortable and near to Savignyplatz S-Bahn’s stop.

“Fantastic culinary and personal experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

This is one of the best affordable Italian restaurants I know - worldwide. It's run by two friends, one from Sicily and one from Rome - and those are the traditions that inspire their cooking. They don't have the endless pizza list menu, but a limited, often changing selection of sublime dishes that only Italians know how to make: ingredients of the highest quality, fantastic combinations, and dishes that look simple but offer one surprising taste after another. We had lovely paglietta (soft molted cheese in a thin crust) with perfect baked mushrooms and a great duo di melanzane (two preparations of eggplant), one cold with raisins and pinepits, the other hot with a.o. parmesan chees. Both starters were delicious, subtle and light. As a main we had the best calamari ever: very tender and offering a dozen tastes, presented with an equally delicious fresh salad. We finished with a dream of a dessert plate: the lightest tiramisu ever, forest fruits, caramel pudding and raspberry pudding. All that with a great prosecco, a good sauvignon blanc and an incredibly good sangiovese.
And then the personal experience. We made a late reservation, around 11pm, but the opera we went to ran later than expected. So I called them during the break: no problem, 11.30 was fine. In the end it was 11.45 when we got there, and they had kept the restaurant open especially for us - normally they close around 11.30. We got an incredibly warm welcome, and when we showed appreciation for the great food, they pulled out all the stops: both owners came for a chat, they showed us pictures of their ingredients, told us stories, etc.
All this (2 starters, main, dessert selection, aperitive, 2 half litres of wine, water, grappa) for 60 euros per person. (Btw: no credit cards accepted.)
I can't recommend this wonderful place highly enough.

“Great value, warm welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2011

We arrived here at about 10.20pm, but the hostess was delighted to organise a table for us. The food was straightforward Italian, but excellently prepared. The hostess switched constantly and effortlessly from German to Italian, and between these two languages we managed fine. Be warned, this is a cash-only restaurant, and doesn't take plastic.

“Italian Comfort Food in a Relaxed Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2009

One of the best Osterie in Berlin's western city centre. Great, simple dishes at affordable prices. The owner may be a little grumpy at times, but this is more than compensated by his charming wife. Cash payment only!!!
