When the chilly Berlin air gives you a good appetite, go into the Gasthaus Krombach for some authentic and hearty German food! It doesn't have an eye-catching exterior and the interior is a little gloomy, but you receive a warm welcome and great service. There is a menu in English and the waiters all speak English as well. There are some authentic German dishes but be warned, the portions are generous and filling - just the thing for a cold winters day! There is also a good choice of beers, wines and spirits and excellent coffee - just the place to unwind after a busy days sightseeing!

My wife and I had dinner here twice on our three night stay in Berlin. It is in the same street as the Berlin Mark Hotel where we were staying. We were made very welcome and offered menus in English. The cooking is good and the portions huge. The atmosphere is very pleasant, with dark wood and an oil lamp on every table. Most of the clientelle seemed to be local. Both nights the bill came to about €35, for two main courses, a drink each and a coffee to finish.

There is nothing fancy about this restaurant. It's a traditional style German Pub/Restaurant serving honest-to-goodness typical German fare. It's very good value for money, especially when compared with some of the more touristy restaurants on the nearby Kurfürstendamm Straße. There are a handful of tables outside on the pavement for when the weather is good and about a dozen tables in the two dining rooms inside. It seemed to get busy in the early evening but you can always wait and have a beer in the bar area whilst waiting for a table. We never had to wait very long. The decor is in a traditional German style and is both charming and cosy. The service is friendly and efficient and the food is well cooked. Beware the portion sizes though. They tend to be on the large size!. The beer is good too, as you would expect in Berlin.
