“Tranquil lakeside artist villa”

Liebermann-Villa am Wannsee

It's a long drive from Berlin Mitte to this museum and there is nothing else to visit in the neighborhood (besides that the Taxi driver had a hard time finding it). The front garden is very well maintained and reminds of the Lieberman paintings. The villa itself is not impressive, but the art collection is nice and representative. Long line at the self-service cafeteria to get something to drink, but the beautiful view of the lake makes it worthwhile.

take the train from the zoo station to wannsee you'll be looking for the train to potsdam.get off in wannsee.outside the train station in wannsee cross the road and take the 114 bus it stops at that liebermann house. small charge here but only a few euro. the kind of setting that melts your heart.we stood in the garden watching field mice playing!view the house and history then have coffee and cake looking out over the garden towards the lake.you can walk back to the street that the bus drops you on and walk to the right this will bring you down to the conference house.we combined this with a trip on the lake and it made for a wonderful day.

Perhaps a little expensive for what it is (6 Euros). The collection of art is small and the gardens pleasant but not overly impressive. It is certainly pleasant to go and sit on the lakeside at the end of the garden to imagine what is was like to enjoy in its heyday.

I think there is an element about pilgrimage in coming here, knowing its place and the significance of Max Lieberman within the Berlin art world, especially when you bear in mind the other Wannsee Villa just down the road.

It is a peaceful spot and worth a visit if you are a slow tourist who wants a space to reflect in but if you really are after gardens aim for the Garten der welt in Marzahn or the Botanical gardens

We went in here by mistake thinking it was the Wannsee Villa Konferenz (Place where final solution was signed) but it wasnt and we paid 6 euro in. Even if we had liked art it was tiny and not worth going in!

You can view Max Liebermann's paintings of his garden and family in his lakeside villa overlooking Wannsee. The villa has been sensitively restorded and offers an insight into Liebermann's life and inspiration. Walk round the pretty garden to the lake shore - enjoy coffee and cake on the veranda or inside the small cafe which looks out onto the garden. Books of Liebermann's work are placed on the cafe tables for visitors to browse through.
