“As always, my first choice whenever I visit to Berlin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013

I have recently visited Berlin and, once again, I have decided to stay at Abba since my last experience at this hotel had been wonderful.
The quiet and elegant neighbourhood where the facility is located, just a block away from the sparkling Kurfusterdamm, the size and comfort of its rooms and the friendliness of the staff still confirms this hotel as my first choice whenever I travel to Berlin, either for a short weekend or for a longer vacation.

I had a 4 night stay here.
The room was good. As I usually do I asked for one at the back so had no traffic noise.
The room rate was acceptable if not the greatest value. However, the cost of taxis in Berlin makes the price of accommodation seem almost irrelevant!
The hotel was a 20 minute ride from Tegel Airport and about the same distance to the International Congress Centre, one of my daily destinations.
The area is pleasant. There is a supermarket a few moments' walk away and any number of restaurants of diverse ethnicities in the neighbourhood.
I used the hotel restaurant out of laziness on my first night. It offered a small but OK menu; the service was quite "relaxed".

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are very quiet - can't comment on those at the front.

Decent hotels and restaurants may be found in Berlin at reasonable cost, at least relative to London, Paris, Geneva and Zurich. The Abba Berlin Hotel offered immaculate uncluttered rooms in a convenient location surrounded by decent dining options. To be clear, this is not a luxury hotel and the nearby eateries are not gourmet destination restaurants. Yet, all but the most fussy will be happy with this hotel for business or tourism in Berlin. Highly recommended!

Essentials: We needed space for three people and were booked into a large handicapped room. Fashionable modern Spartan décor with bare wooden floors, brightly lit from large window, huge bathroom with walk in shower (perhaps for guests with wheel chairs?), desk, table, chair, TV, safe and refrigerator. No hot water pot. Good free internet. Spotless - this was the cleanest room that I have had in the last couple of years. Front desk staff were cordial and efficient. Brunch was good quality but a bit overpriced.

Transit: The Abba is located in a pleasant district south of the Tiergarten, a short walk to the S Bahn Savignyplatz station and the U Bahn Uhlandstrasse stations.
Tip: If you are touring, get a day pass for 6.3 euro and skip the tourist buses. The S Bahn and U Bahn work very well, and you can use the public buses to see Berlin.
Tip: We used the M29 bus to travel from Checkpoint Charlie through Kreutzberg.
Tip: Skip Checkpoint Charlie. Enjoy funky Kreutzberg.

Dining: The tree lined streets were loaded with good places to eat. Three recommendations close to the Abba....
Tip: Marjelchen at Mommenstraße 9 for an excellent traditional East Prussian dinner. Loved the pig knuckles, succulent duck, and a delicious pork loin with prune sauce. Huge portions. No need for appetizers. This is a small family place with authentic local food. If you want your bill, the custom is to ask for it. The patrons will not want to disturb your conversation after you have completed your dinner.
Tip: Black and White Turkish Restaurant at Uhlandstraßestrasse 171 was better-than-average Turkish fare at slightly higher-than-average prices for Turkish restaurants. We sat at pleasant outside tables and enjoyed the metz (platter of mixed appetizers), lamb and manti dumplings.
Tip: For rum straight up and/or cocktails, try the Rumtrader at Fasanenstraße 40. This is a pleasant tiny quirky place with extremely well informed host/bartender. I am not usually a hard liquor drinker, but enjoyed my high quality tasty and smooth rum here.

Enjoy your stay!

Quick and easy check-in and check-out, although check-in had made a mistake, saying our breakfast wasn't included when it was. Easily sorted. Room great with big bed and pleasant furnishings. Only a limited number of English channels on TV and it didn't look like it had been installed by a German - out of square. Spotless room and everything fitted and worked like you expect in Germany. However, no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Neither could the barman make me an Irish coffee, on two consecutive evening. Quite a surprise! Went next door to the Artotel and had great ones there. Four night trip. Very convenient in a quiet area within ten minutes of Kurfurstendam. Loads of great restaurants, particularly Capone's. Looking forward to coming back again ..... soon!
Breakfast great, didn't try the restaurant, never anyone in there

Room Tip: We chose a room on the sixth floor, away from the lifts and overlooking the street. Quiet and conver...

My wife and I made a trip to Berlin a few days before Christmas. The city had a nice clothing and atmospher very well suited to the holidays. The hotel which presents himself as a 4 star hotel is hardly winning the right to this grade.Rooms and location are ok . breakfast very mediocre and disapointing, the atittude of the staff not more than "correct". Maybe our expectations fot the better food and warmer attitude was because the heavy snow...

I enjoyed my stay here when I was in Berlin months ago. Would love to revisit in future. What I liked the most of this hotel:

Location: Hotel was in the center of the city, in a quiet, modern residential area but not far from shopping and eating. Within walking distance to the shopping boulevard with many restaurants around. It was also within walking distance to the U-Bahn Station.

Interior Décor: The reception area, lobby and rooms were nicely furnished and full of
character. Cool, relaxed and little playful. The red velvet high back, single arm chairs/sofa at the lobby were fun. The chandelier hanging at the corner of the guest/bed room was kind of unusual but “cute”, although I didn’t understand why it was hanging there…Inside the room, one side of the wall and the ceiling was painted white, the other side of the wall was in grey blue. Just cool!
Room: Spacious, bright and clean. Loved the trendy reading lamp, the work desk, the wooden floor and the painting on the wall. Mini bar with space for self-purchase drinks… Everything was so neat and organized.
Bathroom: Good size, very clean, well equipped, and the big red flower wall paper played a nice role by injecting color and adding some warmth to the room. Lovely!

Just a little downside: No English TV channel except BBC world…
TV manual was in German and hard to figure out how to work on a wake up call.

A few words about shopping: not to mention about all those brand names on the street/ shopping boulevard, I would recommend a visit to KaDeWe and spent some time at 6/F. There was a very nice food section with all kinds of cutting meat, sausage, seafood, and lobster booth…you can eat at some of the booths as well. (It was not too close yet not too far from the hotel, I took a long walk from the hotel, spent hours there and back to the hotel by foot.)

We adored this hotel! The decor is sparkling and vibrant, with lots of red, black and silver, and the quirkiest lobby chairs I have even seen! Staff were great, and our room was bright and cheerful, with a great bed and a very spacious bathroom. Breakfast buffet was perfect. The location is also convenient. Highly recommended!
