“lots to like but not a great experience for us.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

the michelberger is a cool quirky hotel in a hip part of Berlin, with good connections to get around the other parts of the city. A lot of thought has gone into the style of the place and there is a huge amount of attention to detail in the visual aspects, especially the bar. This makes staying here a fun alternative to dull characterless chain hotels. The 'snug' room we had was very small but ok if you are planning to spend most of your time seeing Berlin. A small wardrobe or hanging rail would be useful though. The staff are generally helpful but there were a couple of instances where a traditional hotel might of offered more professionality. We asked one staff member to call us a taxi as we were going out to dinner. 5 minutes after it was supposed to have picked us up I asked at the desk and was told it was coming. 5 minutes later I asked them to check and then was told that they had forgotten to book it. this meant we were late for our table by about 15 mins. Not a huge deal but sightly irritating. The following morning I couldn't find my wallet in the room and after searching all over had to conclude it had been stolen from our room, whilst we were asleep. This seemed hard to believe, but shortly after we went to reception we found out that another guest In the room opposite had her phone stolen as well. the staff let us use their computer and phone to cancel my cards, but we didn't feel like what was a serious incident was treated with serious concern. After we reported it, it was never followed up by the staff and it was only after asking about calling the police that one member showed me how to report it online. my girlfriend did not feel safe in our room on our last night. I think part of the problem is that with large groups checking in and out the reception staff are very busy and can't offer the same service as you might find in an equivalent sized hotel in the western part of Berlin.

Its called a hotel and is priced similarly, but in some ways the michelberger is more like a grand upmarket hostel. Whilst this will be fine for many, especially those wishing to party, it might not be suitable for all.

We stopped off here to escape the rain, and chill out for an hour. The staff were so friendly and helpful (I needed to print off a few tickets and they did this free of charge). It looked like it would have been a great place to stay, and good location near the East Side Gallery and nightlife.

With it being November and our first trip to Berlin, we were looking for a hotel that would be friendly, cosy and welcoming as well as having a relaxed space to socialise as a haven from the cold weather! After reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor, we booked to stay for 3 nights. Having arrived early morning after our flight we were greeted by warm and welcoming staff who allowed us to check in to our loft room. This was very impressive with a cosy bed space close to the ceiling and big windows which gave us a great view of the bustling Warschauer Straße below. I particularly enjoyed the small touches Michelberger Hotel add to your stay. Their witty 'Do not disturb' door signs and drinks menus give an edge to usually dull elements of hotel stays. After hearing about how great the breakfast was, we opted to give it a try and were not disappointed. The buffet selection was vast and included enough orange juice to keep my girlfriend happy! We also had lunch at the restaurant on our first day as we shamedly muddled our way through the menu with our limited German language skills, the waitress was quick to assist - thank you for the patience! The food tasted great, fresh ingredients and refreshing vegetarian dishes. I have never felt more relaxed and at home in a hotel, the moment you enter, the lounge welcomes you with comfy sofas, lighting and a chilled vibe. Very impressed, would certainly go back again when visiting Berlin!

Room Tip: Loft rooms are great

This is a very good hotel from location to the bar.

The station is also very close to the hotel which makes it much easier when traveling around Berlin. I was surprised about how big our room was which was great. It was a loft room which gave us so much space. I couldn't have been happier with the service from the hotel employees, they were always ready to help and easily approachable.

I would recommend this hotel when wanting to relax and travel around Berlin.

Amazing value- I think the three of us paid 60 euros each for two nights. We had a triple room. It was clean, convenient, and the bar down stairs was brilliant. In fact we just spent our Friday night there- with live music and cocktails we had a great time. The restaurant served really good food too. Very little choice- meat or fish- but excellently cooked meat or fish. And I think we paid 19 euros each for starts + main meal plus a glass of prosecco each and sharing a bottle of wine. Would stay again. Only criticism would be that it's slightly pot luck with the staff, but were mostly helpful and all friendly.

Room Tip: The music in the bar goes on all night, so worth asking to be second floor or above

My sister and I stayed here for one night. Absolutely fantastic - from the warm-hearted friendly staff (who amazingly remembered our room number when we asked about breakfast the next morning), the dedicated every little detail in the room, the cleanliness to the design and the homey, comfort feeling.

The location was literally opposite the S-Bahn station but if you come out of the U-Bahn station like us, you would face the O2 World on the bridge, look left and walk down. Then 3 minutes down the road, you would see the hotel on the opposite side of the road.

The buffet breakfast was excellent, too, with such a wide variety of choice from pastries, cheese, salmon, muesli, yougurt, foie gras, hams, coffee and tea at just Euro 11!!! I would highly recommend that you book your room with breakfast if you have time in the morning to enjoy it.
