“amazing suite/apartment option”
Reviewed October 12, 2011

We rented a 2 room apartment/suite in the adjoining building; we loved it and didn't want to leave! The rooms were €100 each/night (so £200 total per night) and double the size of our 2 bedroom flat in London. We were traveling with my in-laws visiting from America and this was a great set up because it allowed us to each have our own space but also spend time together. They are pretty tough hotel critics and they loved it as well (one of them travels extensively for work and is used to the perks of high-end American chain hotels). The apartment had a good sized bathroom, sitting room and kitchen. The kitchen could have had more glassware (like some wine glasses maybe?), but overall it was well equipped. There is a fridge, nespresso maker (you can get pods at the front desk) and a bakery and market around the corner so we could easily make our own breakfast spread. The breakfast downstairs is €15pp, so it was nice to have this option. The rooms are modernly decorated, an Urban Outfitters vibe if you will and plenty comfortable. I really loved the slippers included in the room, hard to describe them, but better than the standard white hotel slip-ons. My one complaint on something that actually impacted us was that, you need to speak with the front desk there was always a queue, but that aside, everything else was wonderful.

Room Tip: 611 was the number of our room.

When in Berlin, I prefer to stay at the top-end hotels like Ritz-Carlton, Adlon or Interconti.
For the first time I have stayed in one of the cheaper, more trendy hotels in Mitte, the Amano. First of all, it's great value for money, I had an appartment with fully equipped kitchen and seperate sleeping room for Euro 100,-/night. It felt like staying at home in Berlin on local living standards.
Breakfast (Euro 11,-!!) is nice, good buffet with a lot of choice. Do not expect luxury or impaccable service, but it's great value for money and has a positive vibe.

If you are interested in staying in Mitte (and I was) this is a fantastic location. The Circus hotel is even closer to the Rosenthaler Platz ubahn stop, but this is only a couple blocks away, not an issue at all.

The rooms are modern and nicely, though sparsely decorated. As indicated in many reviews, the room is designed somewhat uniquely so that the shower is essentially in the room. Basically, the toilet is its own closet, then you have the sink and shower, then a desk, then the bed. It isn't as weird as it sounds, but it might be an issue if you are sharing the room (depending on whom you are sharing it with).

My biggest problem with the room was the rather uncomfortable pillows, which provided no support.

Wireless worked quite well in the rooms, as well as the lobby.

Though some reviews described the front desk as uninterested, they seemed no different than the front desk staff at any hotel.

I didn't take advantage, but the hotel bar is supposedly one of the best hotel bars around, and the rooftop portion has an amazing view of Alexanderplatz.

I would definitely return, especially if traveling solo again. Good value, especially because of the location.

This hotel was wonderful. We managed to score a large room on the fourth floor that had two walls with floor to ceiling windows. We couldn't have asked for a better view or room! The location was also wonderful... very close to the Rosenthaler Platz station on the U8 and only a couple of stops from Alexanderplatz. It was really easy to get everywhere we wanted to go in the city. The staff wasn't overly friendly or rude, just average. The breakfast was complimentary which was nice, but we were often waiting around for dishes or for the juice machine to be refilled. This was only a small annoyance though. Luigi Zuckerman's deli next door served good food at a decent price. Would absolutely recommend!

I only spent a weekend at Hotel Amano but everything was perfect: spotlessly clean and spacious room; nice, contemporary decor; location (U-Bahn stop just around the corner, a 5 minutes walk from Alexanderplatz and smack in the middle of an area with plenty of shops and hangouts); staff attitude; breakfast quality; nice, lively bar downstairs that's actually an attraction for the local crowd; lovely terrace; great prices.

I'll definitely try and be back for a longer stay in the near future!

This a trendy and cool looking hotel and the decor is superbly done for the price you pay ! It is brilliantly located very near the u8 U-Bahn (Weinmeister-strasse) in Mitte and one stop from Alexander Platz. You can also stroll down to what is deemed the prettiest East Berlin neighbourhood called Prenzlauer Berg. The hotel itself is located near some bars, cafes (Luigi Zuckerman gourmet deli next door do yummy sandwiches!)and there is even a mini market opposite.

The hotel breakfast buffet is 11 euros and adequately does the job of filling you up from eggs, bacon , cold cuts, cheese selection, cereal, yoghurts and a variety of bread. The only slight drawback is around peak time of 8.30-9am morning where you could be waiting 15 mins or more for some of the dishes to be replenished.

The air conditioning in the room works very well and is a welcomed comfort when temperature outside is a sveltering 35 celsius. As this is classed as a " budget hotel" (although I personally would rate this a 4 star boutique hotel), there are no bathroom toiletries aside from shower gel. With a mini market across the road and the great value price you pay for the hotel, its a very small inconvenience .

The hotel roof top bar is swanky and also gives a scenic view of Berlin against a backdrop of lounge music- I recommend this more than the downstairs bar . The garden as well is a great place to relax. The only negative comment is that whilst the hotel staff are friendly, not all can speak English well which can be tricky if you needed advise for directions or suggestions.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back again !

This hotel has a great location in East Berlin - near transportation stops and lots of activity. The hotel was a good value for us as we needed a two-bedroom apartment. They have a few apartment-type rooms and ours was clean and spacious. The bar downstairs is an excellent cocktail bar, and the rooftop bar was fun. Our major complaint was that the hotel has no concierge and the front desk was reluctant to help us with travel in the city. They only reluctantly helped us make some dinner reservations. And while the front desk staff was young, they did not appear to speak English well (despite the many young English speaking Germans in Berlin). Our microwave never worked, and while staff arrived to look at it, no one reported back (or fixed it during our stay). The elevator to our third floor was out for several days, and each time we reported it to the front desk, they acted surprised. So, if you want more service from your hotel staff, look elsewhere. The free wireless was great, except you had to get a new passcode each day, which was annoying for a 5-day stay (and something no other establishment has required).
