We stayed at the Circus Hotel in Berlin based on other TripAdvisor reviews and it certainly had a lot to live up to! Fortunately it didn't disappoint on any level. Great location, great staff - friendly and efficient. Wonderful accommodation (we had the 3 room apartment) - 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with kitchen for 160 Euros / night - fantastic value! The restaurant too was really nice and terrific value for money. I would definitely never stay anywhere else in Berlin and can wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone!

We chose this hotel based on other Tripadvisor recommendations and it did not disappoint! Cool hotel, really nice, low-key, helpful staff and great location. Our room was clean, trendily decorated, had a very roomy bathroom and shower and was quiet! The breakfast options were more than sufficient and the dinner we ate there was very good. We came back to the hotel one evening after having seen a wonderful performance of the Berlin Philharmonic and got to listen to live soul music which we also very much enjoyed. We would stay there again without hesitation.

So it's absolutely unnecessary to repeat the huge number of already placed reviews - if you choose the #1 tripadvisor hotel you'll get a good quality.

Some evident pluses:
- great location in Mitte, east Berlin, metro station is 30mt away!
- clean rooms & toilets. Not perfect like in good 5 star but very good.
- very pleasant & stylish restaurant Fabish

Some minuses were noticed:
- no air con.
- Apple devices didn't work with their wi fi during our stay. I asked the hotel staff twice to fix it... But you can use the hotel's laptop or computer at lobby hall free of charge.
- the street opposite the hotel is noisy enough. Book the inner rooms, it's very silent!
- at check-out the hotel staff Judith tried to charge 100 EUR more, than needed. After my notice of course she said "ohh! Sorry! What a mistake!" Be careful...

Overall the price/value is very good.

Dear Ytrewg2000,
We are extremely sorry for the confusion on check-out. We are very proud of our team and the fact that mistakes at The Circus are extremely rare. We can absolutely guarantee that there was no intention to overcharge, not by us, the owners, and not by Judith, who worked on that day, and as you can see from the many previous reviews, this is not an issue that has occurred before, and we can absolutely reassure you that the Circus will never use practices like that. That said, we understand that a misunderstanding such as this can be uncomfortable to deal with, and we will be checking our procedures to make sure something like this cannot happen again. Thank you for your feedback, as always it is the criticisms that we receive through forums such as Tripadvisor that allow us to improve our service.
Best wishes from Berlin, Katrin Schönig (Hotel Manager).

We booked the Circus based on the TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. I'm always pleased to see that a small, reasonably-priced hotel can get such good reviews and a high rating. We experienced the same thing in Venice at The Antiche Figure.

We arrived early (10:30am), but the reception clerk went out of his way to get a room that had already been cleaned. The room was just fine, somewhat small, but facing a courtyard so there was no risk of noise from the main street and intersection outside.

We asked about a walking tour, since we would be in Berlin only for a day, and he told us to be in the lobby at 12:30pm where a guide from Brewer's Berlin Tours would pick us up. We had an excellent tour (reviewed elsewhere).

Dinner was excellent in the Fabisch restaurant, which is part of the hotel, and breakfast the following day excellent as well - but for some reason they seem to limit the juice (I don't drink coffee) - if you wanted more than a small glass you were given, you had to go back to the bar where they refilled it - unlike the self-service in most German hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the courtyard for a quiet night's sleep.

My wife and I stayed at the Circus for 4 nights in late September 2012. It definitely lived up to all the good reviews on Tripadvisor.

We had a 'junior suite' and it was very spacious and comfortable. It had an iPod/iPhone docking station, also a great shower as others have mentioned. WiFi was excellent too (wish it was this good everywhere we stayed on our 6 week Europe trip ;-).

The staff we dealt with hailed from various countries as well as Germany and were all helpful and friendly. The restaurant was nice and not too expensive. A couple times a week they have the 'jazz and gin' nights in the restaurant which we enjoyed on the Sunday we were there.

The location on Rosenthaler Platz was also excellent. We had a tram line in the square and a U-Bahn station just outside the hotel. The staff at the Circus can 'rent' you a monthly transport pass which saves quite a bit over buying a separate ticket for each trip or the Tageskarte (daily ticket). If you want to eat somewhere else there are numerous options nearby. The little restaurant next to the hotel had both an Turkish and an Asian (Vietnamese) section and you could get a decent meal in either for 3 or 4 Euros. Across Rosenthaler Strasse there is also a laundromat where you can do your laundry while drinking E1.50 beers and getting free WiFi. Much to the delight of the Aussie backpackers we met there - we'd never get that in a laundromat in Australia!

Anyway the Circus met or exceeded all our expectations and we couldn't think of any aspect in which we'd have anything negative to say about the place!
