We booked a classic double room and were quite excited to go to this hotel, as it was our first vacation without family in five years! Needless to say that we were disappointed to get to the front desk and find two aloof desk clerks. We were put on the 6th floor (top floor) at the very back of the hotel, involving a long walk to the room (which even involved several steps of a landing that we had to drag the cases up and down, as there was no ramp.) It was stiflingly hot in our room, even with the AC on the coldest setting. The room was cramped and the tv faced the front door, not the bed! (But there was nothing but German tv without subtitles available anyway, unfortunately). We slept poorly - the bed head tilted down and made my husband dizzy, while I had night sweats from the heat. (Opening the windows was too much noise from the busy main road outside). We told the woman at the desk about the AC and she looked at us blankly, asking several times if we'd made sure we'd turned it on properly. She finally agreed to send a mechanic to the room that day. We returned to the room later to find that not much seemed changed, but we were willing to give the room another night. (We passed the same receptionist later that night, but she neglected to ask us if it was improved, nor did she greet us at all).
Another blazingly hot night resulted in my staggering exhaustedly down to the desk at 5am and requesting a new room. We were given a new, comfortabe and normal room with AC that was much improved and we were much happier. I must say that the room was exactly like the photos and was very nice.
Overall we found the staff to be disinterested, the hotel packed with noisy business conventions, (resulting in loud conversations outside in the courtyard/convention area beginning at 8am and ending at 12:30 or 1am,) no clocks in the rooms, the tea bags provided in the room weren't replaced when we used them...suffice it to say that there wasn't much of an effort to go the extra mile to take care of a romantic couple when the business guests were there! I would love to stay at this hotel under different circumstances, and would hope that the management would take steps to cater to more than just business guests.
