DO NOT walk past the Galleries Lafayette on Freidrichstr. especially if you are hungry. The store is upscale and a lot of people will pass it by, but if you walk in and take the elevator down you will be rewarded. They have a great seafood restaurant along with other counters selling everything from pastry to wine, along with a huge selection of French food products to take home. We stopped in 2009 and had the Fish Soup, and the memory was so good we did it again this year! It was still excellent! After a leisurely bowl of soup and a glass of wine we roamed along the pastry counter and had a dessert and a cup of coffee. All was excellent and we will be back! Seating is limited at mealtime, but the result is rewarding! Enjoy!

Our friend advised us to go to food court at KaDeWe but we confused the shopping malls and went to the ground floor at Lafayette instead. Best location error so far, since then every time I'm in Berlin I go to Lafayette fish counter and have my bouillabaisse (french-style food soup) and oysters with white wine. My friend tried oysters at Bordeaux on the ocean beach but Lafayette oysters quite matched. Came there several times, was hungry every time and alright after having the oysters.

We had galette with salmon with a glass of wine, liked it very much. The place has much more atmosphere than Kadewe 6th or 7th floor.

We stopped here for apple strudel and vanilla sauce, expecting special food...piece of strudel reheated in microwave and charged a few euros, disappointed.

If you're options run out and you're in the neighborhood, this is a great place to have a quick lunch. Had the roast chicken and it was very reasonable and good. It is not as cheap as the doner on the street but they do have good choice. We stayed at the Westin Grande and this place is certainly more reasonable than what you pay at the westin for a quick meal.
