I wish it was the real building. Instead, it's a completely fabricated structure. You will also find cheesy costumed soldiers you can take your picture with-for a fee. I wish there was more to it but not really. At least I can see that I have been there.

some of the site has been overtaken by actors passing off as officials and encouraging tourists to have their photos taken for a cost. If you look past that and go around the hoardings that show the development of checkpoint charlie and the people that died at the Wall it is incredibly informative and moving.

I've been there serveral times (with some years of difference) and every time looks different. Anyway I found it always a very special place.
Good atmosphere. A "must" if you are in Berlin

This museum was established when the Checkpoint opened, and is right next to it. It is a fascinating history of the Wall and chronicles the attempts of many people, some successful, others with tragic endings, to cross from the East to the West. It also gives accounts of the many heroes who tried to help people escape across (or under) the Wall. It is a fascinating museum, but you need to be prepared to do a lot of reading of the material on display to get the most out of it. The cafe is best avoided.

To get a decent photo do it daytime as at nighttime there are strong lights facing all sides of the checkpoint so your image will be overexposed. It is worth to get a guide, visit the museum nearby if you want to associate a photo to the landmark.
