The day started at the outdoor market - a farmer's market - discussing what we would cover and what our interests were. We found many things in common about our philosophies of using fresh, local and sustainable meat and produce.

After selecting the food, the preparation became a highlight - and the results were so good. Making and snacking on Flammkuchen (German bread with red onions, sour cream and speck) was our first tasty experience. Also enjoyable was learning to use herbs and vegetables specific to German cooking (e.g., Frankfurt green sauce).

Important was the low pressure way my wife and I became immersed in the cooking process - and the personalized menu we received later.

One of the best cooking classes we've taken in Europe - the shopping aspect makes it special.

We had a blast with Kit. The market tour was lovely, she knew many vendors and pointed out different ingredients she likes to cook with and seasonal treats. Her home is gorgeous and she's a great host! We'd recommend a tour and class with Kit to anyone in the area!

While planning to attend a one-day business meeting in Hannover in February, a colleague and I decided to include Berlin in our plans before heading home. Found Schoene Heimat online and was thrilled to learn that Kit could a arrange an English-speaking cooking class that would accommodate multiple food intolerances, especially, no gluten, soy, eggs or chicken. We met Kit in the Winterfeldplatz Markt (outdoor farmer's market) on Saturday morning to purchase our ingredients, made a couple additional stops for other provisions (of course, some wine!!) then headed to her apartment to start chopping and cooking. The day started with a dreary rain, but then the skies cleared and we had a beautiful day. Kit's apartment has wonderfully high ceilings and big windows. It was a delightful day!! We made wild boar sausage (in casings and wrapped in cabbage leaves), root vegetable soup, a beautiful salad and topped everything off with chocolate pudding. We wrapped up the class having lunch with the food we just made -- all delicious (of course, we made it!). Highly recommend spending the day with Kit and learning Modern German Cooking.

If you care at all about good food and really good local food, this is the tour for you. I feel so lucky to have found this class. Kit is gracious, welcoming, and a really good chef. You start with a tour of the farm market, then a chocolate store and a wine store before heading to Kit’s home and putting on your apron for the day. We prepared a delicious three course meal with wonderful instruction and conversation. Thank you Kit for an unforgettable experience. Hope to return someday. Linda

This was one of our favorite activities in Europe! We loved the market tour and picking our fresh meats, fruits and herbs. Kit was happy to accommodate dietary restrictions. She is such a warm, inviting host. We loved cooking with her in her home. It was fantastic.
