We travelled as a family of four and had a truly wonderful stay at Mittendrin. The owner, Sabine, was the kindest most attentive hotel manager I have ever met. We arrived as strangers and left as friends! We spent 4 nights in the moderne room which was spacious and the beds super comfortable. Breakfasts were lovely and it was fun to sit together with the other guests and discuss plans. The hotel is perfectly situated for accessing sites like KaDeWe (as other reviewers have said) but also there were two comic, toy and model shops on the corner that delighted the children (and husband). About 50m away is a 3 level Lego shop the best I have seen in Europe (and better than Legoland Denmark) so if you are travelling as a family then these are good to know about.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the “Romantic” room at Mittendrin for four nights and – as many others have commented – found Sabine’s guesthouse to be thoroughly deserving of its many excellent reviews and #1 position on TripAdvisor.

Sabine gave us a very warm welcome, showing us around our room (and the others that were unoccupied) before inviting us to have a glass (or two) of champagne while she gave us an overview of the city and recommended several restaurants and good areas to visit in each quarter.

Breakfast is marvellous – varying a little each day with fresh fruit, delicious jams and cold meats, and so on. Having suffered several days of “warm water and a teabag” tea in our previous hotel we were delighted to find that Sabine can make proper English tea, and lots of it. Sabine breakfasted with us and most days there were other guests at the table with us, so there was plenty of conversation including exchanging of tips on restaurants and things to do.

The location, too, is excellent – Mittendrin is in the main shopping district, within five minutes’ walk of at least three U-Bahn stations and only a little further to the S-Bahn and plenty of buses. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance; Sabine can recommend somewhere for pretty much any cuisine you can think of. Being located in the city, of course, there is a little bit of street noise but in our room with the windows open onto Nürnberger Straße we weren’t at all disturbed by noise; with the windows closed we think even a light sleeper should be fine.

Overall, then, we highly recommend Mittendrin. It’s clear that Sabine really wants her guests to be comfortable, happy and to enjoy their stay, and goes the extra mile to help make this happen.

We spent three nights in mittendrin and greatly enjoyed our stay in this very attractive and elegant apartment style accommodation, which is a pleasing alternative to a routine hotel. This is an apartment in the heart of the city, so there is inevitably some street noise, however we found the double-glazing most effective and weren't troubled by the noise, and instead appreciated the great position of this apartment.

Sabine is a delightful hostess and provides a lovely breakfast for her guests in the dining room. Sabine also shares breakfast with her guests and provides valuable tips on things to do in Berlin, e.g. a walking tour, various museums, the Reichstag etc. The Reichstag was a highlight for us - if you're interested in politics make sure you book well in advance for a guided tour: http://www.bundestag.de/htdocs_e/visits/besgrupp/fuehr.html (Berlin is a fascinating city from a historical and modern perspective, a must see on the European tour.)

We also benefited from Sabine's restaurant suggestions, i.e. the 12 Apostles pizza restaurant, the Portugese fish restaurant, and the Middle-Eastern restaurant just up the road, all very tasty meals. The famous Ka De We department store is close by, the Gourmet food floor (6th floor) was my favourite - we found ourselves there each afternoon to enjoy 'kaffee und kuchen' - simply the best cakes!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Romantic Room which was spacious and charming, and which had its own bathroom adjacent across the hallway. Chocolates are also provided!

We spent 5 nights with Sabine arriving on 30th June, and we had an amazing stay. I won't go into too many details, as there are plenty of past reviews that can tell you how sensational the breakfasts, rooms and hospitality are. But I will go into the the little things that made our stay at Mittendrin very memorable. Upon arrival not only did we enjoy a refreshing Campari and Orange, but also Sabine took the time to point out some of the local more non-touristy things to do in Berlin - having been to Berlin before it was great to hear some fresh ideas. Each day when we arrived back at our room after a day exploring there were always little treats, chocolates etc waiting for us as well as fresh bottles of water. Sabine went out of her way to make our stay relaxing, comfortable and no hassle, even looking after a bag of washing that we had. All in all a great place to stay if you are looking for something small and quiet, in a great location and great value.

From the moment you are met by the lovely owner Sabine you are made to feel very welcomed. It was like living in your own apartment in Berlin. The fixings, decorating and furniture are all lovely. The rooms are spotless and airy. And the breakfast was outstanding and beautifully presented. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone... Fantastic totally enjoyed my stay here.
