“Free Walking Tour and Alternative Tour.”

We recently took the Free Walking Tour around Berlin with Sandemans. We picked Sandemans because they came to our hostel in Berlin to take us to the walking tour.
The Tour was great because it includes all the main sights in Berlin from the Brandenburg Tor to Check Point Charlie and many more.
Our Guide for the Tour was Rob M and he was great. He had a great interest in the tours and really engaged with the tour group giving us great detail about the historical significance of each place. His enthusiasm really made the tour enjoyable.
All in all Rob M is an awesome guide for Berlin.
The best part is if u take the free walking tour and book other Sandemans tours that day u get a discount and they also give students discounts.
The next day we took the alternative Berlin Tour with Amy, who was really friendly and outgoing and a fun guide especially for something like an alternative tour, she seemed to know a lot of the artists personally so was able to tell us lots of details about the art we saw and really put Berlin's graffiti and street art into perspective. The Tour ended at the East Side Gallery thus allowing us our own time at Berlin's most prominent monument.
So if you're looking for a great tour in Berlin definitely use Sandemans. The Tour guides are really knowledgeable and fun to be around specially since you have to spend around 3 hours on each walking tour.
We were so happy we used Sandemans the next week in Prague too!

“Great tours, guide well prepared”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

We took 3 tours with Sandemans - the basic tour, Potsdam and Nazi. Our tour guide for all 3, Sam, was excellent. He's a Phd student in history at Humbolt and I bet he'll make a great professor some day. He came with visuals and knew his stuff. Plus he was passionate about the history and city. He kept track of all of us and handled the 2 annoying guys who wouldn't stop talking firmly but without anger. He answered everyone's questions fully. Ask for the tall Brit. You won't be sorry.

“Quite a recommended experience: Rob Shaw of Manchester enthusiastic and knowledgable”

Quite a recommended experience: Rob Shaw of Manchester enthusiastic and knowledgeable. In fact, wow, is it exciting the way he has fallen in love with Berlin! Moving actually, if I weren't so "old and settled in my ways, and a Sunny Californian, I'd nearly consider it on his enthusiasm alone! You can't go wrong with Sandemans on any walk!

“Excellent tour/Great concept”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

I was obviously a little skeptical about a "free" tour but decided to go and check it out, after all, it was free. Thankfully, I ended up being happily surprised. The tour covered most of the important sites in downtown Berlin and our guide, Mark, was fun and very knowledgeable as to Berlin's, Germany's and some Prussian history. Most of the tour covered modern German history, which I suppose is what most people are really interested in, but I was very pleased to hear Mark also mentioning Prussian leaders and Prussian policy, since that plays such a great part in Berlin's not so modern history! He was able to answer all of the questions posed to him on the spot without really hesitating and made sure to engage the participants of the tour! I'd recommend this to anyone visiting Berlin be it for a day or for a month!

“Sachsenhausen Memorial with Rob S”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

A must if you are in Belin. Rob S was our tour guide. It was a very interesting, informative and sobering day. Rob is quite enthusiastic and knowledgeable while still maintaining a degree of sensitivity. He provided so much information and eagerly answered all of our questions in detail. I suspect he would be "fun" on other tours, but this is not a "fun" sort of place. Rob mentioned a couple of books on the tour that I thought might be interesting reading. An email to Sandemans was quickly replied by Rob with a list of all of the books he referenced on the tour. Pretty classy! The one negative is that there were 30 people in our group which made it difficult to hear at times if you were at the back. I assume that's not Rob's fault...max should be 20. Other than that, I highly recommend this tour.
