We were lucky to get Sam Noble for our free tour of Berlin. This was my first trip to Berlin and the tour provided an excellent overview of a fascinating city with a complex history. Sam's knowledge of Berlin's history and European history in general obviously shone through, which is reassuring for when he gets to defend his history PhD thesis. Add some charisma and humour and you're in for an entertaining and informative three hours or so. This may sound long but it flies by and there is a short break for refreshments. The tour is an example of performance related pay: the guides work for tips so it is in their interest to really make the effort. I enjoyed it so much that I went on the Third Reich the next day.
