Recommended in our guide book we tried to eat at this restaurant on our first night in berlin, a friday. Being a very popular restaurant we were told there was no chance of a table for that night or the following day but was able to book a table for the sunday - reservations really are a must.
We were sat at a table in the corner upstairs. There was very little atmosphere as we were separated by the group next to us by a coat rail so felt a bit isolated!! we asked if they had an english translation of the menu, which they did but only an incomplete one which isnt ideal if theres not a german speaker in your group - luckily for us my mum is fluent in german so could transalte for us. We ordered drinks which took a long time to come.
When our drinks came around 15 minutes after ordering we were told due to the large group next to us the kitchen was very busy and there would be a 45 minute wait for food which we said would be fine. However ,it would've been nice if they had told us when we arrived as at this point we had already been there for 15 minutes and got our drinks. We then ordered and was given a portion of bread.
After over an hour had past and there was still no sign of our food, we got the attention of the waitress and asked how much longer the food would be. The waitress was not apologetic and quite rude in return saying we were warned about the wait, upon which we replied it had been longer then they said and no one had come over to our table the whole time to refil the bread or to see if we wanted any more drinks. The waitress then said she would go down to the kitchen to see when our food would be and took our drinks order. She then came back with more bread being apologetic as we think she realised it had been much longer than she had initially thought. We were told our food would be the food next out. Despite her saying this it was still another fifteen minutes till the food came out.
The food itself was all absolutely superb. Really generous portions and excellent quality. Its a shame service was so poor. The large group next to us was no excuse either as they obviously have a full service every night so should have been able to cope. They did however give us a free round of drinks to apologise.
Also worth knowing they do not accept credit/debit cards so you have to pay in cash!
