“Great location to have a view over the city”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Food was good. Tafelspitz maybe a little to dry. Service was good. Silvaner soup was good. Espresso was poor.

“This one ticks ALL the boxes!”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

Wurzburg would have to be one of Germany's most under-rated gems offering great beauty, history and friendly people. The charms of Wurzburg did not go un-noticed by Hollywood when it was featured as their principal filming location in the 2011 version of the "3 Musketeers", (many of Wurzburg's landmark buildings clearly identifiable in the movie!).
History and hospitality is matched by the range of quality restaurants Wurzburg has on offer.

You know you're in for something special when the journey to 'Nikolaushof' takes you only a short distance from the city but a long way up . . . The steep hill on the edge of the River Main is home to the Marienberg Fortress, providing unparallelled views across the city . . . It is a stunning location. . . . . Yet, only a few hundred metres nearby, and sharing the same panoramic views, is Nikolaushof.
Nikolaushof comprises a compound of restored historic buildings transmuted into a multi-purpose restaurant , bar and function centre. On the occasion I visited, my friends and I dined in the main restaurant which is the largest room, bordered by picture windows that overlook the verandah . . . and THAT view!
At lunch, the view is of the city and, because the restaurant is actually so close, one can clearly identify specific buildings. By night, the lights of Wurzburg form a carpet of colour radiating in-front of the restaurant.
The restaurant is a light and airy space, tastefully decorated. The multi-lingual staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is superb! Nikolaushof's menu is predominantly Franconian fare . . . Popular, flavoursome dishes, presented with real flair; but there is also an offering of alternate dishes including a delicious Thai 'Tom Ka Gai'.
Prices at Nikolaushof are a little higher than a lot of restaurants in downtown Wurzburg, but with a location, food and service this good . . . they could really command any price they choose. Fortunately, owners and management have kept the pricing real.

Another concept unique to Nikolaushof is their 'Seegarten'; an outdoor 'lounge' landscaped with ponds, fountains, plants . . . . and table service! It's a relaxed, classy bar. A great place to meet friends for drinks during summer; to sit and watch the evening shadows grow across Wurzburg as the carpet of lights illuminate the city, whilst enjoying the same standards and service you receive in the dining areas. It would be so easy to spend an evening or two here with friends!

I was extremely impressed with Nikolaushof, it ticks all the boxes for me. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and colleagues . . . and I look forward to returning here myself.

“Another disappointing old friend”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

The food and view were always very good. On several recent visits, only the view remained as it was.

“Wonderful way to spend our anniversary”
Reviewed April 4, 2011

My husband and I visited Nicholashof last Saturday for our anniversary. We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the city. The restaurant provided blankets for us and water for our dog. It was truly a romantic place and well worth the cost. The menu was limited and we would have done better skipping the appetizers and getting a dessert instead as the appetizers were't great but the service was excellent and we'd definitely go back.

“Amazing view over Wuerzburg - beautiful spot”
Reviewed October 14, 2010

If you want to go to a special place with a beautiful view over the valley and old town of Wuerzburg, then you should go to the Nikolaushof for a nice dinner or just sitting outside in the Biergarten or enjoying the outside bar in a nice summer night.

For me this is a place to go in summer, but also nice typical Franconian style atmosphere inside.

Have to see it yourself.
